Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 24th aug. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning everyone
been up ages dd up and for some reason excited about her op today
just going for a shower and then it will be nearly time to go her op is scheduled for about 10am
hopefully I will see you later if not sometime over the weekend
:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: to all
have a good day

Morning. It's looking a bit overcast today, but looks to be dry.
yesterday was quite a triumph in our house.
My Son got 11 GCSE A-C so he was very happy.
My OH got her maths GCSE (b) 30 years after leaving school so she was happy.
I got the grass cut, so I was happy.
It all went down hill by evening time when I would not let one of the kids 'sleepover' his mates. Got in to an argument with the OH because she wanted the heating on!!! Daughter got menstral over her huge mobile phone bill... and so on. But today is a new day:o
I have a day off, so I plan to go uniform shoppingwhoooppeee.
CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Mrs-Mix, hope DD op goes well
N9eav, well done to your clever family
Shopping today, must try not to buy any bargains for in the freezer - I can hardly shut the lid  Will have to do a freezer and cupboard food plan to try to use up some things - if we are snowed in, I could feed the whole street
Tried to do some cross stitch last night, and found that I couldn't see, so looks like a trip to the optician - I need glasses for reading, but need something stronger for sewing.
Hope everyone has a good day xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
morning all
its looking very autumnal here today, misty and with a robin singing in the trees, our brambles and elderberries arent ripe here yet but i am keeping an eye on them as i plan to do some more jam
not that long till the october holidays so think i will leave painting the inside of the house till then and do a spring clean too, well autumn clean, better late than never
both dgs's are out of school at the same time now so i have been walking down to take them home with Lorenzo in the buggy, unfortunately we have to pass a shop, but i will have to be more strict with myself and not take them in to it, all the icecreams seemed to be one pound each
well done to all who did their gcse's
Jackie hope you have a lovely holiday and the sun shines
grannybroon glad your Mum is getting sorted out now, bet she will feel a lot better
mrsmix hugs to your dd for her op x

WOW, that's great, N9eav!
Good morning all!
The dinner went well. Asparagus soup, moroccan chicken, couscous, veggies, panna cotta. Wasn't going to do a starter, but made the soup and it was really nice, so I decided to use it. CHicken was good; sauce wasn't the same as last time(?) so I'm going to try to figure out what i did differently. Veg was pumpkin, beans and chard stirfried together (beans + pumpkin precooked) and was a nice combo.
Panna cotta! LOL - DH had bought double cream instead of singel, but I figured it would be OK and used it. IT was too thick and set rather than wobbly, wouldn't comeout o fthe moulds, so we ate it straight from the ramekins......after they left my DH mentioned that he liked it as it wasnt too sweet.......... I LOL'd as I realized I hadn't put any sugar in the cream! sigh
must be because of my foot; I'm trying not to stand on it too long.
But my foot was really swelled up and sore after doing the dinner; can't even do htat much wihtout it bothering me; there;s got to be something more wrong with ti than just a broken toe.
Just realized that the digi cam is broken so I can't put a pic up of the x stitch!
And i found out last night that I can get an allotment here really quickly as there isn't a waiting list - and if I dont' want a full allotment I can get part of one on a community allotment and then I wouldn't have to buy a shed and tools etc as there are communal ones. Think I'd do that to start and see how we got on. My DH is one I'd have to really work on to get him going on it; he likes gardening but doesn't always want ot do the work.
Already deciding what I'd plant.....0 -
Morning All
Mrs Mix - hope all goes well. I'm at the same hospital next week for a heart scan
Well done to everyone who passed their GCSE's:T :T
Back at work again. Got one of the big bosses coming in later - hopefully I'll have left for the day by then. On my own in my department again today, with four days worth of work to do single handedly:mad:
Actually got the entire bank holiday weekend off, so I'm planning a night out with my friend tomorrow. She wants to go out twice, but I don't feel up to it. I plan to go to bed early tonight and sleep until I wake up naturally, so I can catch up on all the hours I've missed.
Had lovely dinner last night with home cooked ham. The left overs are in my sarnie today and I've just had a breakfast of a HM loafcake.
Hope everyone's okComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -
charlies mum, do you have a stand and a light for your x stitch?? You may find that helps to see. Even a strong light set behind you to shine on your fabric can help.0
-
I've got one of those adjustable lights, so pointed it down onto the fabric, but I still struggled.
Unfortunately, the aida is black which is probably making it more difficult, but I could see well enough to stitch before. I think it must be my age, everything is starting to fall apart now I'm 50 :rotfl:You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0
