If mum doesnlt move in you can just afford the house.

If mum moves in you can't afford it although she will be contributing to the bills?

The rent and council will be the same amount. The only increase will be her food, heating and lighting which she will have to pay wherever she lives.

  • Thanks for all the info guys.
Yes it really is what mums wants, it was all her idea in the first place. She has no friends where she is, she would be closer to them with us. Plus she feels unsafe on her own. We have discussed this at length and other family members have talked to her too to make sure that she is certain.
Mum is taking independant advice, and we would put her on the tenancy too. So we would look to reclassify the property and cost the landlord more.
In terms of my salary, im taxed really highly for the luxury of having a company car, that I actually couldnt do my job without. I dream of £49k a year!!
  • Have you checked that your partner can run a business from the property? Don't you need the landlords permission (I could be totally wrong though).

Have you secured the property? Can't see it being for rent for long

....Mum is taking independant advice, and we would put her on the tenancy too. So we would look to reclassify the property and cost the landlord more....

If you're putting her on the tenancy, presumably it's for the entire property, so why are you also going for reclassification?
    Is it for spite?

If your LL has planning permission for the annex and providing it's use isn't in breach of that planning approval, then you'll have achieved nothing to your advantage but potentially upset your 'new' LL.
