Jonno Thank you for getting us started.
This morning was very sunny and warm, which motivated us to get up and do somethings
I spent half an hour earlier sitting in the sun, drinking coffee and perusing recipe books in anticipation of meal planning, free and enjoyable - my kind of fun
Both children appear to be coming down with a lurgy
both easily to tears, not very interested in eating, lacking energy and wanting lots of hugs. Think they caught it of their cousins who have recently been poorly, but are much improved.
Today:
LSD
Write shopping list
Go shopping and only buy what is on the shopping
Buy chocolate oranges for stockings whilst on offer for £1
Post on this thread for support, motivation & inspiration
Open curtains to make the most of the natural light and heat
Dry washing outside in the sun (may need to finish off on the airier as their is no breeze)
Meal plan for November, we are trying to widen our range of meals so boredom doesn't kick in as well as to be organised to save money/reduce waste and to stop us thinking about getting a take away or going out because we don't fancy cooking.
Turn off lights and appliances not in use
Entertain us and the children for free
Use OH inclusive minutes to contact people to come and give us quotes to fit our multi fuel stove
Set DW to run overnight
Set WM to run overnight
Close curtains before it gets dark
B/L/D from stores
Check FPL
No heating, we have jumpers & blankets
HWB for children's beds (if they ask for them as it is very mild here)
Make birthday cards for MIL birthday
Post cards and letters

Hey

I am so pleased to hear that you're on the mend Bob. Nice to have you back.
Our house has been non stop with trick-or-treaters since half past four - I've left the kids in charged, and I'm showered, ready for bed and snuggled under my quilt watching Strictly...crazy_cat_lady wrote: »

It's not even November yet and I'm skint :rotfl: but I rang up both of my creditors directly to double check final amounts owing and confirmed that my settlement figures are valid until 10th December. I must ring Stepchange to confirm that my payments will get to them before the 10th (otherwise I suppose I can just do it myself). Also got a letter saying that I don't owe Moorgate anything any more - I tried to phone to confirm it's all paid off and the account is now closed but they weren't open. Ah well - they've waited 5 years, I can wait a few days more. Not giving up

Evening Frugalistas,
Well, you'll think I'm as tight as the proverbial gnat's chuff, but I'm saving money at the moment by not opening the door to the 827,000,000 kids who seem to have knocked in the hope of trick or treat. Love this time of year & have big pumpkin in the window, etc, but I can't be bothered with endless trick or treat. Today's money saving efforts:
*Found 11p roadkill.
*Had day out which was low spend. Bought a coffee but took picnic with us to save spending on lunch.
*Filled car up with petrol in the north of the county where it's always a good few pence a litre cheaper than in our town.
*Upgraded our mobile phones which were out of contract today. More minutes, data, etc, but a £4 saving a month on each contract, so nearly a £200 saving over the 24- month contract. Phoned old provider to terminate contract. Was told there will still be one payment each as we need to give 30 days notice. I grilled them on how 30 days notice can be demanded when the contract is finished. I was very assertive, but apparently this is industry standard, despite sounding like a rip-off to me. Then after all that, I was told that we might get a rebate anyway.......???
*Paid 2 x 50p pieces into my sealed pot.
*Cut a home grown lettuce.
*Free leisure activities - have updated my blog, read a couple of magazines & will be watching a film later tonight.
Have a good evening, everyone.
Yorkshirelass - Worrying about money is horrible, I know. You can't do anything about the unforseen financial stuff which might appear (apart from having an emergency fund if you are able) but you know, the thing which most seems to be worrying you, that you might get tempted to spend much-needed money over the next couple of months, is certainly within your control. Don't overthink it all now, just make sure that when you are faced with choosing whether to buy a non-essential, non-budgeted for item or not, that you make the right choice. No point in making yourself more stressed by taking your budget even closer to the line. Worrying solves so little. Remember, when the going gets tough, the Tough PLAN! I'm sure you'll be ok.
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -

Thank you for that foxgloves, sound advice. This is the first year that money has been really tight for Christmas. My boys are nearly 15 and 17, there is very little that they need or really want and we have already told them exactly how much we can afford to spend on each of them.
Both boys have birthdays near Christmas too. In the past November and December have just been one long spending spree and it sounds shallow but I suppose that's how I have always celebrated special occasions - by spending. Its not too late for me to change my ways is it?
We usually have family come to stay in early December too and it tends to be quite an expensive weekend. Even feeding an extra 4 people for 3 days is costly, without going out anywhere. I haven't discussed this with the family yet, I need to think about this a little.0 -

Morning!

I don't know what has happened to me this morning but I've been wide awake for almost 2 hours. I am hoping to doze back over for a bit but everything I've tried so far has failed - so I thought I would get on here and put my plans for the day down. It may clear my brain enough for me to sleep...
Check banking (1st of the month - another payment gone)
PAD - I will find one from somewhere
15 mins housework and declutter
change cat litter trays (or get someone else to do it)
tutoring
dd to tumbling class
visit my mam (free feed)
haven't decided whether to look for slippers for ds at Mr S before 25% ends or aim for nsd
exercise
get outdoors for at least 20 mins
try not to lose my temper or get hysterical as I will be tired
See you all at some point later
Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

CCL - I am so excited for you with your barely there debt figure! You will be wearing that wonderful red badge in no time. All your efforts over these past few weeks keeping your family going will be worth it when you are on your Xmas break. Go you!
Foxgloves - completely agree to not doing trick or treat if you don't want to but isn't the pumpkin code part of the issue? Down here we only take kids to the door if there is a lit pumpkin visible. It's the only way of knowing whether to knock. Is this a London thing??
We failed miserably at Halloween this year. We did make a pumpkin but it went mouldy before Halloween came. So we meant to buy and carve a new one but what with the illness and new baby factor we simply ran out of time. So OH took son out to do trick or treat but no one came to us for treats because no pumpkin out. Sadly as we did have chocolate and sweets here.
Have woken to extremely foggy conditions this morning. First day like it this autumn. Hoping to get out for a walk later though to make the most of the family all being here. Last day of half term today and then back to the madness for 6 weeks before the xmas break.
BB - sorry to hear your children are coming down with it. Wish them a speedy recovery.
Love to all
