yes you can sort insurance before you own car - you just need to give them reg no and details and say when you want it to start from.
feel for you re the friend thing and also on feeling bleak and like you have lost much. It's easy to try to rationalise it (or others tell you you should) by thinking well, I have a lot to be thankful for (roof over head, food in belly etc) but I sometimes feel that's like telling someone who has lost one leg to be grateful they've not lost both (I know that's not the same but it's kind of the best way I can express it).
I guess what I'm trying to say is that no matter how much you try to rationalise things sometimes that feeling of loss/hollowness cannot be understood, at least not by those who haven't been there.
I find for me, the best way of getting over those feelings is to try and keep myself busy, find a project, go running, go riding, read, anything to distract me and then a few days later I realise I'm having a good time. Some of it i think stems from having too much time to think.

Thank you Lulabelle. You have summed it up perfectly. And even before reading your post I got up this morning did an exercise vid, changed my sheets, showered and dressed plus make up and hair and I am focusing on sorting out things like the car (!) my new phone and various bits of paperwork.
And now you have said all that I think you are right, seeing it written down is good. Makes me feel less lonely.
It is partly about having too much time to think as well - am on holidays at the moment so time is stretchy - tho tomorrow is Thursday so nearly back at work!

Having caught up completely you really have been through it!! Glad the ankle is healing and this has helped with the rabbits.Hope the time off gives you some time to focus on you, get the car organised and feel refreshed before work again. My friend who is a teacher always puts a countdown on there phone to remind them how long it is until the next half term!

yay! well done buffy!!!!! That is so the right attitude and the great thing is, you did it all yourself (so taking control of your own destiny) before you read any posts suggesting that.
you go girl!!!!!I want to be a writer0 -
Good to see you getting on top of things and not the other way round. I did have a moment of panic until I realised that you'd posted yesterday and not today! My lovely mechanic brought my car over today
It is not as good as my old car, but it is fasterand it does mean I can use some of the pay out to have an emergency fund.
Thing is I keep doing this folks, it is normally a tax rebate that saves my bacon.........never make it passed 3500 in an ISA. Admittedly for about a week over Christmas I had 5000 pounds i then invested 1000 in Peer to Peer lending and spent a thousand on car insurance and Christmas..............
Essentially it is my Amazon addiction that is the problem. I need to stop buying stuff.
for example, £5 on a watch, £5 on fleece for the guinea pig run, £9 on cable ties, just in the last few days, plus best mate's birthday presents......
And I am not ever wearing the bloody watch.
I am considering the idea of paying the 500 pounds (my current amount spending money) in the TSB account and leaving it there and surviving (such hardship) on the money left in my Halifax account after all the bills have gone out. Which is about 400? Truthfully I don't need to buy much. Have sorted a wardrobe out, the animals' are all fixed up in terms of cages/equipment. Weekly spends really shouldn't add to more than a 100 pounds (not even that) and I have to stop buying crap I don't need - it is clearly not making me happy!
That way once I got to 2000 in the TSB I could move a 1000 in to the ISA? and keep doing that.....
Flies in the Ointment
1. The bathroom -- we have damp on the ceiling it needs painting. in fact it needs a whole redo.
2. The Garden. I say the animals are sorted but looking at the hutches and runs outside - they need painting and "fixing up" an the lawn might need re turfing...........plus I need to sort electrics for the pond and the standard weeding and sorting of the front and back.
3. The upstairs landing - we have a blind, neither Mum nor I can get to it, it is filthy and I hate it. plus it all needs painting.......
4. Carpet in the hall needs replacing.
5. Need new sofas..............................
Baring the sofas and the bathroom much of that could come out of my spending money....if I was economical (read immensely tight!)
The painting would have to be done in September whilst Mum was in Florida. I may hire someone - I did it myself last time but the gloss needs doing and I just....I am not so inclined frankly! Want to paint my room at Easter so will see how it goes.
I think the bathroom is a priority - so will get a quote for that. Good bye Bath!
Garden would have to be done at Easter so the small and furries can be outside whilst I paint........but I am wondering if it would be better to do the garden and then my room in the summer? spread the cost....and the work - I really don't want a massive load of pressure.
Trying to have a conversation with mum about it.................

I'd say the first job is to find out what's causing the damp.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Chuck some lawn seed down in the next few weeks and that'll be the lawn sorted!
I don't have a problem decorating any room but the hall/stairs/landing has to be a decorator jobbie, they can do it all so much quicker and you can hole up in one room with the doglets whilst they're doing it. Why not get a quote to get your room done too and whilst your Mum is away you could de-camp into her room/spare room and get the entire lot done (and maybe the bathroom too). A lot of upheaval but probably not as expensive as you think.
My only issue with wet rooms is they inevitably cause issues in the room underneath and if the floor fails in one small area, you normally need to renew the entire thing. Great for bungalows/downstairs bathrooms though."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

Mum won't leave the window open to dry out the bathroom after a shower for long enough cos she gets cold. I hate writing that as she would be really hurt by me blaming her but for five minutes here and now I am fed up with managing her feelings over mine.Nevertheless she persisted.0
