  • If a savings account offers monthly or yearly interest, which is best? It mentions compound interest? so wouldn't it be the monthly ?

    I don't know............been reading Mr Money Moustache.........There is a light!! your fault!

Just pondering what to do.............ISA I guess?

    XXX

Hey, don't blame me :rotfl: I guess the one that pays monthly you would get compound interest on. I am continuing with high interest current accounts and once they are filled I will start with regular savers. I also contribute to a S&S isa.

Buffy, both are the same rate - monthly figure gives AER which is same as annual rate. As you can't take the money out without penalty it doesn't really matter when they put the interest on. It might, in some circumstances but no practical difference as far as I can see (I did two years studying accountancy and had to calculate these sorts of things but it was a long time ago).

Which makes me wonder why they'd offer it? Any how bit pointless since I am better off with the ISA I think...........
I was doing a group couch to 5k programme offered free by local council. The instructors caught sight of how swollen my knee became and told me not to come back without written clearance from my gp. I was six weeks into the ten weeks. I was gutted. Still, after my imminent surgery, I will go back as it did make me feel better.

Oooo I think I remember that! - your knees at any rate........ 6 weeks tho. I wouldn't have got that far!

Had cereal and yoghurt for breakfast but think it is too much sugar.

Today I have new fish being delivered. My tanks needed some attention and I decided to treat myself for getting through the review at work without being shot.

hoovered room, sorted George order WELL pleased with my clothes! need to send back two cardigans - weird chiffon thing going on, and two skirts that just were fractionally too short and too tight for work, but got three work tops, two out of work tunics and various knickers/socks/handbag a hoody, dressing gown and a running top! all for just under 100 pounds.

    Ooo Fish have arrived!

That is what I thought, but then why would they offer both if one is going to cost more money for them?

I trying the high interest current accounts........Got the TSB one. Might do a stocks and shares ISa from April........once all the money from the insurance company is sorted.

  • Fish seem to have settled in well.............It is amazing what makes me happy!

I am going to watch a film with Mum this afternoon tho for reasons known only to my brain I feel shattered.. not done anything aside from light tidying (which will be destroyed by the rabbits....) and hoovering. Could easily fall asleep.

oh buffy, poor you! what a horrid thing to happen!

hopefully the insurance co have properly paid out now?! or at least agreed to?

re the weight, I don't agree with denying yourself treats but I do believe in trying to be "good" 80% of the time and exercise. A few years ago I lost a lot of weight by just having meat and vegetables (no carbs) for tea during the week and allowing self only 4 squares of choc from those big bars. For lunch I'd make a wrap as that is much better than bread. And exercise, at least 3 days a week (know this is hard for you at the mo but when you are recovered) even if it's just walking. Maybe sign up to the couch to 5k? And do it with a friend (or if you haven't got any friends who are interested (they might be like mine and all too busy with kids etc) then find someone on here who wants to do it/do healthy eating too and spur each other on).

    Hope that helps xx

I quite like that programme. 80% good seems like a plan. and the three times a week is doable.....

oh and ps, following that programme i then allowed myself to eat what I wanted at the weekends (take away included), I just ate half the amount I normally would have done

that half the amount idea is genius. As I often over eat ....feel stuffed and dreadful etc........

This post made me go back and read :) Wow I was really in a lot of pain, a lot of the time! Ankle definitely is getting better, still hurts but no where near as badly!

Also the rabbits aren't as annoying now the ankle is better. I still can't kneel down fully, but I have rearranged the cage so things are easier to get to. They still aren't totally litter trained! but it is not so bad.... just one pair of shoes and a lamp ruined this week - I will take that over the weeing!! which they are now 100% in the litter tray!

Work is.....well it should be doable, so long as I get my planning done this break.

My room has 3 boxes left to sort and there is the conservatory. But I have sorted the clothes situation out, much happier with my choice of wardrobe than I was a year ago.

Am debating what to do tomorrow. Typically in Half term everything is happening on Friday!

Can I sort insurance out before I own the car???

  • And about two minutes after feeling better about things my friend invited me to something - it is silly and I feel like a school girl but originally we had planned a joint thing, sort of as in a weekend away thing which I thought might be good - but I am miserable cow regarding my birthday! Any how now they are doing something joint. I was hoping if I am honest I would be more involved but between me breaking my ankle and being house bound and her getting a new boyfriend and being in a serious relationship our friendship is not what it was, I haven't even met the boyfriend!! My other friend who is the other half of the joint thing has had an awful time of it lately and deserves this party.

oh do you know what? I hate my birthday! This is only the culmination of how I have been about my birthday for the last ten years. I guess I will have to look upon this party (her birthday party) as something else I have to go to on my own. I just hate it. I can get everything sorted and under my control and then unintentional things happen and leaving you feeling so much of what you have lost. When in reality i have so much to be thankful for.

  • yes you can sort insurance before you own car - you just need to give them reg no and details and say when you want it to start from.

feel for you re the friend thing and also on feeling bleak and like you have lost much. It's easy to try to rationalise it (or others tell you you should) by thinking well, I have a lot to be thankful for (roof over head, food in belly etc) but I sometimes feel that's like telling someone who has lost one leg to be grateful they've not lost both (I know that's not the same but it's kind of the best way I can express it).

I guess what I'm trying to say is that no matter how much you try to rationalise things sometimes that feeling of loss/hollowness cannot be understood, at least not by those who haven't been there.

I find for me, the best way of getting over those feelings is to try and keep myself busy, find a project, go running, go riding, read, anything to distract me and then a few days later I realise I'm having a good time. Some of it i think stems from having too much time to think.
