LL, good luck with the "one year challenge", I'm sure you will achieve your goal(s).
I fear I will be joining you lurking in the shadows soon, as there are only so many times one can say the same things, and give the same advice, and watch others do the same, only for our efforts to see very little change in mindset on ACs part.
So below I'm reposting something similar to a piece from a little while back as it's even more relevant now your recovered from the lurgie:
Will you realistically be fit enough in the foreseeable future to be able to work - a full and frank discussion with your doctor still needs to be had (as a matter of urgency)?
If you will be fit enough to work are there jobs to be had? If so in what areas of Poole/Bournemouth as that should influence where you choose to settle permanently (check with the agencies as a matter of urgency).
How much cash will you have left after clearing all debts - use the worst case scenario (you absolutely need to know this, so do a statement of affairs as a matter of urgency)?
Make a budget, do you know how much you are currently spending each week on daily living (if not why not)?
They are things you need to know before buying any property.
So IMHO,- do all the above this week.
- get fit (your getting there).
- clear your debts or at least put aside the money to do so based on the total you currently owe.
- make a realistic and informed decision on future work prospects.
- sort out a permanent house to live in.
Like everyone else I really do wish you well AC, however I also worry that you are heading for disaster unless you focus, and use method and application to deal with your future, but as ever it's up to you to make your own destiny.0 -
Of course all the regulars on here understand that AC wants to live in an attractive flat in a certain area of Poole.
All we have ever tried to do was nudge him towards a realistic look at the possibilities surrounding him before making his decision.
And of course we all wish him well. I hope that goes without saying.0 -
Totes with all of the above. I wish you nothing but happiness, AC and have far more post-code addiction than you. It is just tough that we had to go cold turkey but there is no reason for you to let go of your dreams provided you can pay for them. Ain't that life's lesson?
I just would like to reiterate for the 77th time, this was the first (and now only) place I feel safe online and that is entirely down to you, AC, and to all the lovely regulars on here. Thank you all so much. You will always be special to me for that reason, AC.
I agree, we are overdue a little lunacy on here, just to lighten the mood but the muse does not speak to me when I'm down... So I will now go and watch some more eps of "Case", the jolly, Icelandic saga on 4Od... Google if you dare.0 -
Morning AC,
First time I've logged on since Friday and wow an interesting few pages to read. I do agree though about the budget etc and you know it's only because we are all worried you'll spend more than you can afford!
I know a couple of people have asked but how much do you realistically have to spend on a place? Taking out debts of course.
You mentioned something about a flat for £180 and you offering £157? I think those were the figures. Please don't fall into the trap of thinking as you'll be a cash buyer you can take the p*ss with offers. As you know I'm in Hampshire, when I sold mine in May to a cash buyer i rejected his offer that was only £10k under - I would imagine that most people in Poole looking at flats for the £180-£200k are first time buyers so you really aren't in any different positions to them.
I do hope you have a better day today, the weather is starting to clear where I am.
Re groups etc, I can't remember the name of the website but there is a huge one called something like 'meet up' where you rendezvous with people with similar interests. my friend loves rock climbing and when he moved here from Scotland didn't know any areas so joined and he goes most weekends with his 'new' friends - they cover all interests

Smodlet, I watched Case last week - very compelling, but very disturbing. I "enjoy" most of the Nordic/Scandi series and have read most of Jo Nesbo's books (in the same vein). Sort of appeals to the dark side of me I think (although appeals probably isn't the right word).
AC - hope you had a good sleep and feel a bit more uplifted today. Where are the flats you were looking at today, I've forgotten? I can understand what Anna_1977 is saying about not being too gung-ho with low offers but buying a property isn't an exact science. If you watch Location you can see that sometimes even Phil & Kirstie are surprised when low offers are accepted, but sometimes even they don't manage to secure the properties at asking price due to demand. That is what is the driving force of course - market demand and whether the vendors want a quick sale or are willing to wait for their price. My opinion is try a lowish offer but have an idea of the highest price you will pay (and stick to it). You can always increase an offer but you can't easily decrease one (unless there is loads of work needed in the survey). At the end of the day you have to what feels right to you, but that is why I think it is a good idea to view a few properties so you get the feel for what you like and the price you may have to pay.
It is so dull here I think I am going to have to turn the light on soon. Hope everyone else is having better weather.0 -
Hi dreaming, AC and everybody. I have not read any Jo Nesbo but have seen "Headhunters" dubbed into English. I watched it only because Ser Jaime is in it but loved the incredibly dark humour. Have you seen that one? The dog on the front of that fork lift truck, OMG! Not to mention the outhouse scene, yikes.

Hi Op, sorry I don't think Ive posted here before but I've been dipping in and out of your threat.
£157k, on a flat marketed at £180k isn't nessisarily being over optimistic. When I found my flat it had been on the market for 6 months at £185k. I hadn't seen it as I was only looking at properties marketed up to £175, The estate agent persuaded me to have a look as he though it might be perfect and there was wiggle room on the price. I bought it for £152.5k As my dad used to say "shy bairns get nowt"0 -
Look at RCI Bank. In recent weeks they've increased their interest rate from 1% to 1.01% then 1.02%. Awaiting the next announcement with bated breath :rotfl:.
. Actually, that does make it the best paying instant access account so well done them :T.
Good luck today ACA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
