It's her again, droning on about steroids.

They increase your glucose levels on their own, so sugary drinks are just giving your body the excuse to develop proper diabetes.

I think it's very unlikely that you would be prescribed an anticoagulant for an erratic heart rhythm. Mine sets off on its own from time to time.

And switch off your blooming alarm! After a run of grim nights I took a second cup of tea back to bed this morning, and dozed, and for once felt better for it. I even tackled (well, opened and shut) the drawer that is clearly a wormhole into another dimension.
  • Thanks Wendy .
I woke up at about 1.50am . I think I may have inadvertently , messed up things prednisolone wise.
Back in November , the specialist asked me to reduce from 10 mg (2 tablets) to 7.5 mg. Because of my major upheaval, I only reduced dosage about 12 days or so ago. However, my way of reducing dosage, was by splitting one of the tablets in 2 .
Having said that, today I will collect the new dosage from chemist and I will start that tomorrow. Maybe that's why I've been more breathless at times.
Confusing. Still , I've switched off alarm. No good now, as I'm awake .
Eventually I will get back normal sleep pattern .

I'm missing a lid from a nice Tupperware pot if you could look out for it - oh and a white sock is missing its partner. And marbles. Definitely missing quite a few of those. Thank you :)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

AC. Sorry to hear that you are struggling but well done on switching off the alarm. You really don't need it. It will probably take a few days but your body should adjust and you should then sleep better.

I have had terrible problems with lack of sleep, mainly due to stress. My sons bought me a watch which monitors my "vitals" and it showed I was only getting around 2-4 hours. I really felt awful.

Things got so bad that twice last week I nearly fell asleep when driving. Anyway I resolved to do something about it.

I have reduced caffeine intake, especially in the evening, but I think the biggest help has been reducing computer time, with a total ban using the iPad after 8pm. It seems to have made a huge difference.

I also have made a point of "eating clean" so no convenience foods, cutting out all the sweet stuff and reducing sugar intake.

I feel so much better - I'm now getting between 6 and7 hours sleep and I have been able to drop the IBS meds.

AC. I don't know much about your condition but I do know that reducing Pred has to be done in a controlled way, no guesswork. My husband used to take it so I understand it has to be reduced slowly and systematically.

Here I am nagging again but AC you really need to up your game.

If "pred head" is screwing things gs up then why not get a little notebook and start recording everything. Keeping a food and medication diary will help keep you on track.

And I have to say you do need to start taking your diet a lot more seriously. Stop relying on fizzy drinks including lucosade and berroca. A good multi vitamin might help but check with your GP first.

But really your first port of call should be sorting out your diet. Ditch the junk and eat clean. Meat, fish, a little dairy, vegetables, a small amount of fruit, wholegrains if your system can cope (unfortunately mine can't, I have to go grain free).

I know I'm a dreadful nag but do you really want to add diabetes and/or heart disease to your existing condition.

I find it odd, and not at all helpful of the medics (no !!!!!!, Sherlock) not to have given AC the same instructions as me re reducing the steroid dose.

I posted a while back about never reducing by more than 10%, and about enteric coated pills.

AC - did you drink a lot of Lucozade? Just wanting to drink it can be an early pre-diabetes indicator.

    Today's nag over.
  • LL..wise words as always.:)
Believe it or not, my diet isn't too bad. Caffeine after 7pm Will keep you awake. Lucozade gone. When I look at what I was having on a daily basis at work, with no excercise I've made a big improvement already.
I think it's teething troubles with me at the moment .

    Glad you're feeling better.

Didn't go to hospital for blood test yet. It's routine anyway . I will go tomorrow early, and make appointment for Ecg.
Feeling an improvement since Monday .

I'm in a strange situation . I said I'd give myself 6 months off , expecting not to be in the situation I've been in up to now. My immune system basically packed up for a couple of months. It's obvious now I needed this time off. If I stick to my new plan, I should be back on track soon .

My story with lucozade : addicted to it as a kid . Preferred it to coke / lemonade etc. Used to buy it when the bottles had the old cider stoppers on them, and the yellow polythene .
Then stopped for a few years altogether. Late 90's - about 2015.
In 2015, reason I started taking it again: I was waiting ages on the underground late at night after band practice. It was in a tin looking at me . I was seeing a fitness instructor at this time , and avoided most fizzy stuff. ( got hooked on curiosity cola, but that was 1 bottle a day).
Since then , I've stopped and restarted my lucozade habit.
It's got to go! Btw: flat lucozade is awful:)
Forgot to mention, I was taking a lot when I had the flu. It made me feel better at the time . No more
