Our last neighbour but one was a miserable old git who just let his house collapse. Once a year he did 'gardening' ie attacking the one bush that defied him by living, in front of the house. Picture a 70 year old with bottle glasses, with a vast drooping belly, wearing only hobnail boots and a leopard print posing pouch.
Thanks for this image - think I need to disinfect my brain now!
dreaming - there is only one Sherlock Holmes - Jeremy Brett. YES YES YES
Really am signing off now xx0 -
Hey AC. Sounds like things are moving in the right direction and you're still looking forward and being positive. Don't forget how far you've come and what a massive, life changing move you've made.
When we were looking at properties, I tended to offer 7% under asking as first offer. Sometimes I felt embarrassed it was too low - once was laughed at pretty much (it then sold for that price 6 months later!). I always emphasised I was in an excellent position (you're even better placed as a cash buyer) and could move as quickly or with as much flexibility as the vendors wanted. Worked a treat on the house we eventually bought. Don't be embarrassed to offer low - but do some research and be prepared to negotiate.
Re houses and flats - you have sometimes seemed a little indecisive in this thread in general, but I think you've been clear throughout this journey your preference for flats. You know the pros and cons and have had a lot of advice, so you're going in with your eyes open. Thanks copper jar
Nice to hear from you again. Hope you have settled into your new place ,and all is well.was thinking about you today .
I think the main thing is finding something, that won't take forever.
I feel like I'm in the right location ,more or less. I can't believe how quick the time has gone already .
I was like a robot for some time "I'm gonna take 6 months off. I'm gonna get my place within that time. Then I'm gonna lose a stone - a stone and a half. Then I'm gonna find a job , hopefully part time."
I didn't think,I would be wiped out with the worst flu I've had for years, or he really breathless a lot of the time. Still got a phlegmy cough .
So things may take a bit longer0 -

We have some lovely neighbours down here which is one reason probably why we have stayed put for almost 30 years. When we moved from Kent to Cornwall all our London friends said don't go to Cornwall -they hate outsiders (this was 1988). We found a house we loved but it took an age to buy it with loads of problems. Eventually we moved in to find our neighbours came from Kent too. Loads of emmetts down here in south west.
Needless to say my best friend was born in Redruth and we made loads of friends both who originated from Cornwall and some who moved in. There is a bit of competition between Devon and Cornwall though usually re scones and jam and whether you put the cream then the jam on or other way round.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Just a small thought AC, are there any local authority gyms locally? Here they tend to be in sports centres or swimming pools (not actually IN the pool obvs). You can find they are a lot cheaper than private gyms, if a bit less posh and as far as I recall you pay per visit not a huge upfront payment.
Hoping for success for your hunt, mine is not progressing too well due to uber-picky family.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good luck with your search too, ancientofdays.0

Strange morning . 4 hours sleep last night. No complaints .
Trouble is , I woke up at 340am

Fell asleep , woke up like I had a hangover .
Went on computer , to sort out music downloads on website .
Couldn't remember password . Ended up talking to nationwide .
Then realised my free prescription card is out of date . Called them .
No problem.
