I think this thread is the only safe haven here where whatever we say, there is no malice.

I think it was Smodlet who said, a while back, that she was donning her Kevlar suit before venturing onto the tech board. I once ventured a harmless question on the eBay forum, and was set upon by hyenas.

We all mean each other well, and especially empathise with AC's journey.

Absolutely, totally and unequivocally, wendym. I hope you are feeling a bit better now? I am sorry I have not enquired earlier. The chavs from hell have been outdoing themselves recently so I've been a bit distracted. My apologies.

P.S. I don't think I ever actually got as far as the tech board, decided it just was not worth the grief. I take the view now that, if I'm not getting paid to put up with it, I don't unless I am desperate for information... and there's always google.

I am so sorry about your trials. Utterly miserable.

My daughter lived next door to chavs from hell when pregnant. It got to the point of one of them, stupidly it turned out, posting online that he wished the stupid fat pregnant xxxx would just 'do one'.

It took a long time, but eventually the combination of police and landlord ended it. Dreading going home is hideous.

There are lots of things that give cause for concern in our modern world aren't there, overfishing, farming methods, bonded and sweat shop labour, depletion of resources, pollution. Sometimes I think the human race is like a plague of locusts........

I do try to shop and consume sensibly, I try to live sustainably and with care for the planet but it seems to be increasingly difficult to always be "doing the right thing".

Hey ho, all we can do us try to not to be greedy and to be mindful not to waste the resources we have. I now endeavour to live very simply, not quite minimslist but certainly more "mindful" than I used to be.

I went to China in 2002. Traffic congestion then was bicycles and rickshaws. Now it's cars. In 2002 there was no smog in Beijing. The difference is astonishing, and all in just over a decade.

Wendym. Had to smile at your husband. TBH my hearing is not what it was. Often my son comes Into the room when I'm watching tv. He raises an eyebrow and says "really?" Last night I watched the film "Sully" - about the plane that landed in the Hudson. The script was quite "wordy" so had to resort to subtitles.

Oh the joys of getting older......again too much loud music..in my youth. I had an evening job as an usher at our local assembly rooms - great fun but many is the time my ears would be ringing.

AC/DC were the worst. Felt like my ears were going to bleed.......:rotfl:

Thanks wendym and LL... Is it any wonder I am biassed against oop north? The one time we had decent neighbours the other side of that wall (gods, do I hate semis) it was a great deal better (they were actually pleasant, considerate neighbours and the only ones who worked, who'd have thought?) but rentals, you know? Had we not been in such a hurry I would never have bought next to a rental and never will again. Desperate times, etc.

It really does depend on area and neighbours, does it not, Candygirl? We used to have nice both, once.

What, whales? With all that krill they eat? No chance :D.

Sympathies to all on the dodgy neighbours. I once had a couple opposite who would start arguing at 5am. Had to admire their stamina really .

Smodlet. sorry you don't like "ooop north" but we arent all like your neighbours. ........some of us are quite civilised.

It's always a bit of a gamble, no matter how much research you do.

I know you can now hire a detective to do checks for you. I think it costs around £250. Tempting. ;).

My son really struck lucky here. Traditionally a working class area, which a few years ago became student land and it had a very high percentage of BTL.

Over the last few years the demographics have changed, still multicultural, still some student houses, but definitely more owner /occupiers. The number of skips each summer is testimony to the gentrification that is taking place and property values have risen steadily since my son bought here.

One set of neighbours are renting. They are a three generational family from Lithuania and they are fab. They have a new landlord and he has done a lot of improvements. They really look after The house and garden so obviously the new landlord feels it's worth spending money to keep them happy.

I was a bit unsure of the area at first because if it's history but it's actually a very pleasant place to live. Near to the city but nice quiet streets away from the traffic noise. I can see why values are rising.

Hopefully your neighbours will move on. Is there Anything you can do to "encourage" them to move. :D
