  • Now now smodlet .:) Things are arranged . Not brilliantly , it has to be said
I just have to bite the bullet . .
All well and good hiring a skip, but computer desks / shelving units can't be taken downstairs or out the front door in my condition

Honestly, AC, why don't you just tell them to do the rubbish run on Wednesday or forget it and you will hire a skip? Who's moving, them or you?

If AC's London Borough is anything like mine, you can't just 'hire a skip', you have to contact a skip company and they take care of applying for a skip licence.

Most Councils require at least five clear working days between it begin submitted, payment to clear and the first day it would take effect. Some longer.
  • This is true ,just about .:)
  • I have 3 guitar wall hangers . Guess I'll have to remove these .
Guess who has the drill ?:)
  • I think AC is saying he needs help to get stuff into skip so maybe best on this occasion to let his brothers mate help him. After all he won't get paid if he doesn't turn up.

It is a shame you can't go to Poole Wednesday when your possessions go into storage but I don't think you have studio flat booked until Thursday anyway do you. It will minimise travel costs though if you go down with removal guys Wednesday and get train or coach back. Any chance of your brothers mate driving you and your luggage down to Poole in presumably his smaller van after rubbish got rid of Thursday? No need to come back to London then but don't forget to leave the keys with agents.

Yep that's pretty much the deal here, so it does need a bit of advance planning.

Luckily I have a little man with a lorry who will do part loads. That keeps costs down.

I have my little book of tried and trusted tradespeople who I have nurtured and cherished for years.

They are all under strict instructions they cannot retire, they can scale down and semi retire but they have to keep me as a favoured client.:rotfl: (or no more bacon butties and home made cake).

That is abysmal. When we were rewiring my daughters house in West Midlands she booked the skip and it was here next day and collected day after. No licence needed though as they just parked it in front of garage.

You need a licence if the skip is parked on a public highway. If it's on a private drive then no licence required.

Same with scaffolding if it's on the pavement.

It's obtaining the licence that holds things up.

AC. Sorry to throw this at you but does your brothers mate have a waste disposal licence. Where is he taking the rubbish.

    Flytipping carries a huge fine.......

Fair enough. I wondered if it could go in ACs parking space which presumably is off road but all this is pretty much irrelevant now anyway as he has decided to use toxic bro's mate.
