AC. A couple of packs of "shake n vac" sprinkled around will make the place smell nice. Shampooing carpets means drying time etc. Not worthwhile as long as they are no worse than on viewing.
  • AC they will probably want to redecorate being their first place so total waste of money imho to get carpets shampooed. Different if it was a rental and you had deposit to get back. Just do the best you can.

In the future I would leave your brother (the toxic one) and his mate out of your plans. The other one (the helpful one who has lent you money) sounds like the one to listen to.

    That's what I was thinking :)

Good to see you are feeling a bit more positive today.

And dont forget to watch tonight's supermoon.
  • Thanks LL :)
I have things to do ,and they will be done.
I'm on here early , because I have to cancel Bt / Thames water and council tax:)
  • What are you doing about correspondence address AC? Are you getting it forwarded to someone or leaving it until your short term let is sorted. All the utilities will want to know where to send the final bills. Glad you sounding a bit more positive.

AC, £300 "to keep the peace"??? You left messages to which neither your brother nor the friend bothered to listen, let alone respond; why not tell them it's their problem, for once in your life? You won't be around to keep the peace a few days from now.

To put it bluntly, it seems to me you prefer to throw money at problems rather than make any other effort to resolve them. Professional cleaners, brother's mate when the council/a private skip would cost far less. I sincerely hope you are cured of this habit soon, otherwise I can see you having nothing left with which to buy a flat.

Wendym, you and I have more in common than we knew, family-wise. As far as I am concerned, my family is OH and the cat. AC is certainly not alone in having toxic relatives:

You are a day closer to being free of yours, AC. It is your brother and his mate I would have left out of your plans, myself. Too late, now but you don't have to give them your new address, do you?
  • Thanks folks .
Smodlet ..trying to find a way to explain. The electrician( brothers friend ) did some professional jobs for me in the past.
It's hard to get a good person in the building trade as they are always hard to get . I chose him initially as it seemed straight forward ,and with someone I know .(sort of ). The costs of moving vary ,so chose him first .
Not really throwing money at the problem . Just a bad episode, which will never be repeated. Thanks though,I have to be careful and you are right to show concern.

Enthusiastic : Did the Royal Mail redirection to my friends house.

Spoke to Bt : easiest call I've had with them . Spoke to Thames water. They owe me money . Let Richmond council know online .
Feeling slightly groggy .obviously . Just had usual medication and I'm just
    finishing cafe Nero .
Have to buy bits for the housework .Also have to buy heavy duty bin liners.
Also polythene covering for sofas . Bubble wrap .
    :)

I understand about electricians, AC, believe me, had a nightmare one when we first moved here. He got his marching orders on the first day and found two brilliant guys since.

On this occasion, you were not employing him as an electrician but as a dustman... and, if that is his attitude, I would not recommend him to anyone else, either. At the risk of sounding like an absolute b!!!!, the very fact he is your toxic brother's friend would give me pause, or paws (miaouw)
