  • Thanks debs:)
I mentioned many pages ago, the bulkiest stuff I have : leather 3 piece/ leather2 piece and s king size bed which needs a mattress.
When listing the bits and bobs with the solicitor, I didn't mention the fridge freezer as either staying or going .
Was thinking of having the leather stuff reupholstered. Many prefer the worn in look . I used to use big amps with my bass guitars . Thankfully , everything is much smaller these days .
I may give my computer desk to charity . Use the iPad / phone most of the time anyway. Oh, and I suppose the Pilates machine will go ..:)
  • Good morning AC.......

I am so sorry if my post frightened you.......I didn't mean to give you the heebie jeebies but I did want you to see how much danger you could be in by pursuing a path which I felt to be reckless.

I was really concerned that you were about to make a serious mistake.

Every single thing the others have said this morning is spot on, so I won't repeat it. I can only ask you to try to remain calm and think logically.

Ask yourself this........do you really want to remain as you are, miserable, broke, and unhealthy.

It really doesn't have to be that way. There is a whole new world just waiting for you. A new life where you will be debt free, healthy and happy.

Change is always scary, it's uncomfortable, it takes effort, drive and commitment. It takes courage. I know your energy levels are low and it probably all just seems too difficult, too huge. So break it down into easy manageable chunks.

You are over half way there. You've jumped the biggest hurdle. You've got a buyer. The rest is a walk in the park.

RE renting......I think a one bed would be better than a studio, that way you should manage without incurring storage costs, especially if you declutter. Living with a few unpacked boxes will be ok for a few months.

House prices.........who knows. We can't second guess.

Pipe dream?? No it's not a pipe dream, what you want is eminently achievable. - it's there waiting for you - all you have to do is stay focussed and take it one logical step at a time.

Its Sunday, It looks like a nice day. Enjoy it.
  • Debs.......just wanted to say good luck with your new venture. How exciting. :T:T.

And you are so right. In this case rent will not be "dead money".

AC think of that £6k spent on rent as seed capital.

If you were starting a new business then you would need seed capital to fund your enterprise.

Well your new life is YOUR new enterprise and it needs seed capital to get you started. Think of your new life as a business which needs investment.

I think it is also high likely that when you do come to buy your next property, because you will be living in rented accommodation, completely unencumbered with your cash ready and waiting in the bank then you will be in such a good position you may be able recoup that £6k off the asking price.

DEbs is right......it's not dead money, its LIFE money.
  • Thanks LL :)
You know the score . So many people do this stuff ,and they seem to
get by more often than not .
    Interesting time
  • Well done AC
You might also want to look at renting an unfurnished property if you are taking some of your furniture with you, rather than using storage.
Depends on costs of storage vs two removals I suppose.
And also how much furniture you are taking.

Just remember to keep breathing :rotfl:

P.s. If any of your friends talk about renting being dead money, then just think to yourself its actually MY LIFE money....... Its allowing you the time to get your life in order, leave the life you hate and start to put together the pieces of a life you can enjoy.
I am 57 and have just resigned from my job of 30 years to go self employed, so I am terrified, but came to the realisation that life is too short to carry on doing something you are not happy doing.

    Thanks again debs.
Good luck in your new venture. Rooting for you :)

    Good man....

Yes interesting times.......you know the old Chinese curse

"May you live in interesting times". :rotfl:

This time next year you will be rolling in clover. All you've got to do is keep your eye on the prize and stay focussed.

This week I have lots of paperwork to deal with so today I will sort it all out in readiness and write out my to do list for the week.

Tomorrow I will instruct the surveyor and pay some money to my solicitors for searches etc.

I am going to be very busy over the next few weeks so probably won't be posting on MSE quite so much.

I need to finish some bits and pieces here, laying out the garden, organise a carpenter for some internal joinery, finish some decorating, paint some furniture.

I have also been invited to Barcelona for two weeks in November, not sure how I'm going to fit it all in.

    And of course......buy a house.:rotfl:

I will not be "wringing your neck" AC. I agree it is your life and you are plenty old enough to make your own decisions yet seem to listen to just about anyone, and try to agree with them all, even when they have opposing viewpoints.

LL does have a point. What if you were to buy now at the top end of your budget, then failed to find work before whatever money you had left ran out? Do you want to be staring repossession in the face a few months from now? If you wanted my opinion, I think you should be far more flexible about where and what you buy and ensure you have enough left to tide you over for as long as possible. Having said which, it is your decision and no-one else can decide for you, not LL, not GG, not Harz, not your friends or your brother (I thought we left him behind at the end of season 6 ;))

I hope you can calm down, sit down and write pros and cons lists, as many as you need. Renting versus buying; either versus staying put (I think we know how that one goes, don't we?) 2 bedrooms versus 1, whatever it takes. Please, just do what is right for you but don't expect the welfare system to bail you out if you make a mistake; they tend to take a dim view if you leave your job voluntarily, remember? Plus, it is a pittance and I don't think you are terribly well-versed in self-denial, from things you have mentioned about your diet.

You can do this but it will be much better to get it right first time than have to do it all again because you cannot afford to stay in your first choice of location, innit? If you find a decent job, then go for it but it is always best to have a fallback position. All of this is just my opinion; it is yours that counts. S x

It looks like I should be treating my exit from my present situation as fun initially, rather than what seems to be buying in desperation.
    :j By Jove I think he's got it :j
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Feel bette already . When I move , I won't be claiming anything.
I guess I will hit the 'job centre',as well as the agencies .
I quit a job without another one , as I moved into this place I'm in now.
Didn't claim anything then. Was out for 4 months .( longest I've ever been out of employment ). I didn't realise you had to phone the agencies once a week. Doh!:) still , less than 6 months unemployed since I left school.
Hope to keep that record going , or less than 9 or 12 months unemployed:)

If all goes well wth my sale, it will be interesting to see how much notice period I give . Could be less than a month.
Also , my season ticket expires early/ mid November .
Things to look forward to :)
  • You're definitely on the right track. With regards to decluttering, people will buy almost anything on ebay, get it all listed and make yourself a bit of extra cash into the bargain. Id also recommend ziffit for getting rid of cd's, DVDs. I made £75 from things that were just gathering dust, plus they picked it all up for me!
