Sent my friend a few possibles , including new build .
Also, 1 or 2 I may get with a cheeky offer.
1 property , he dismissed as the second bedroom was tiny .
I liked that one, as it has ensuite, and a wrap around balcony .
Apparently, Tuesday is gonna be about 30 degrees. I may book that day of if I can, as I'm doing late shift . Any flats on the North Pole ?0 -
Surely what you need from your friend is information and opinions about the location of the flats
There has already been a long discussionn here about second bedrooms and their merits or otherwise.
If you like it and he has not come back with any negatives about the area then go and see it0 -
Wrap around balcony and ensuite beat a big second bedroom.I would kill for a wrap around balcony.:rotfl:
My friend has gone home this morning. We had a great time, eating out, a little retail therapy, the odd bottle of vino.
Going to see "my" house again later.0 -

And I would kill for an en-suite since one of my kids has had to move back in with me, although I would probably give it to her as she is very messy and then I could keep the "house" bathroom looking presentable for guests. A "tiny" 2nd bedroom is good - means no-one stays too long:rotfl:0 -
Why are you still looking at places to buy? Consider yourself

Perfect!!!
I love having a house guest, but I am always glad to see them go......:rotfl:
Tonight its back to just DS2 and I - vegging out - being quiet - roast beef supper.......bliss.
I went to view "my" little house. The vendor wanted me to buy some bits and bobs, £50 for a pair of curtains. No thanks. Poor girl had paid £176 for them....she showed me the invoice.
Apparently the window is an awkward size so they had to be custom made. They saw her coming, bless her. I'll make my own or better still a plain blind.
Anyway I still love the house, maybe even more .........yes it's small but it's fine for a budding minimalist like me.:rotfl: it has huge potential.
Actually the second bedroom is bigger than I remembered and a better shape. TBH although technically a single you could easily get a small double bed in, but that won't be necessary. I shall be using it as a Study/dressing room and only as an occasional guest room.
AC. Gally is right.......why are you wasting your time, effort, energy and money continuing to look for your onward purchase.
It's far too late in the game now. You havent the time to co-ordinate
selling and buying in one fell swoop.
Don't risk alienating your buyer. If I am not mistaken they want an October completion. It's now well into September.
If you saw your dream property this weekend I doubt that you would be able to complete by the end of November at the earliest. And that is assuming that there is no ongoing chain and that everything went smoothly.
AC it is simply not worth the risk.
Let them have their October completion. That way you can quit your job, move into a rented property and be settled before winter sets in.
No more ghastly freezing cold January commutes. :rotfl:0 -

Thanks LL - I am a minimalist (almost to the extreme) but my "lodger" tends towards the opposite end of the spectrum so I have had to grit my teeth and accept some areas aren't exactly how I would have them. My second bedroom was also my "study/craft room/library" and that had to be absorbed into the rest of the house although I also got rid of a great deal as I really can't abide clutter. Books don't count as to me they are not clutter (as long as they are in height order on the bookshelf:rotfl: ) but I do still cull them over the year to make way for new ones. I do resign myself to the situation continuing for some time due to my DD's mental health problems but I am relishing the peace and quiet this weekend as she is away at the moment so fresh ravioli, nice cheese, and rosemary focaccia for me, followed by some chocolate while watching Beck (a Swedish crime thingy) on BBC4.
AC - sounds like you are feeling a bit more positive at the moment - hope that continues. Not sure how I feel about the purchasing/renting debate. Personally I like the "security" of having my own place but my other DD rents and likes the flexibility in being able to move if she gets fed up, or wants to change jobs (she is a nurse so can pretty much move anywhere). Plus she likes the idea of not having to worry about boiler breakdowns etc. although she has been lucky in always having good landlords (bar one). I have never lived in a flat so can't really comment on that other than I think I would feel conscious of someone above or below me (as opposed to "next door in a house), and I'm not sure I would like owning my own flat but having to pay service charges but I guess you are used to that. Anyway I think it is definitely a good idea to rent as a temporary measure whilst you get to know a new area/recover from the last couple of years/get your fitness back. Once those are all in order I think you will see your way much more clearly. I'm getting quite excited for you.0 -
Thanks everyone
LL , glad you had a good time with you friend .
Sounds like your place is going well , fingers crossed for you .
Dreaming : beck is brilliant . Just gonna catch up on the outlaws
( Belgian ) brilliant also .
Why am I still looking at buying , instead of rent?
Well, initially I was on auto pilot last week in Westbourne and just viewed 4 properties , and another one before I went home .
That one was the best of the bunch .
Last week I talked over my situation over a beer with another friend .
He had a point when he said that renting can be a bit problematic .
( I may not be able to rent in the flat I want etc).
So today , I found a handful of properties near my friend in parkstone as mentioned . He approves . He just thinks I'll be fine , and I can't lose if I buy there .
My solicitor , more or less explained my situation to the buyers .
Hopefully they will be patient .
Most of the places I have / will look at have no chain .
Hopefully , I can do this .
One of my other friends has asked if I've checked for jobs before I go .
Of course I haven't . I will browse tomorrow . In a way I should've done , but I only said to myself in May that I. Changing my life.
Plus , prices might be going up in the housing market , and I may have sold too cheap. So my brother says. He is up on these things .0 -
Something just dawned on me : if I see a place , and I like it ..
Do I put an offer in now ? ( after second viewing obviously )0 -

AC, I wholeheartedly agree with what LL said above.
Renting is by far and away the best option in the short term.
At the moment you are looking at pretty expensive flats with considerable on-going costs which will start to eat away at your remaining capital quite quickly.
You really do need to take a step back, and allow yourself time to breath, make sure of your finances after all your expenses have been cleared, and sort out a job. A 6 month rental will give you that time without any worries.
I'm not sure what you have asked your friends views on, but in reality it is only locations that they should be advising you on, nothing more is needed.0
