Yes I'll probably need some jabs.
Scottish midges...... when I lived there I had long hair, I got it cut because the swines were eating me alive, my hair was full of them.
I must taste good......0 -
I am so sorry to hear of your burglery and thank goodness you are safe.
I live in a little village in the South West of UK, but come from a city in the Netherlands.
When I moved here i locked my car if I was just going back into the house if I forgot something, I made sure all doors were locked even when i was in the house, I suspected pretty much everyone of being out to get me, steal from me, fleece me; nope, I wasn't paranoid, just used to living in a city.
My resident landlords laughed, in a kindly way of course, at my security consciousness, because they have always lived in this little sleepy place. They take no precautions apart from locking the doors at night, they often leave the doors unlocked when they go out, leave cars unlocked in their drive with no fear of anything being taken. Now you might think them very lax, but there has been no need to be security conscious because from what they can remember, there has never been a burglury or car theft here.
It is amazingly much less stressful than my city life. The peace and quiet might not be to everyones' liking, but I love it.
I wish the whole world was like this.
I hope your move happens, lessonlearned and that things are better in your new district.
We have this too Multi. Moved from London area where we were paranoid about locking doors, not leaving windows open to a sleepy town in Cornwall where everyone is very laid back about security. Never had a break in, vandalism, car theft etc etc touch wood. Not even anti social behaviour in the 28 years we have lived here.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Sometimes things just aren't meant to be. QUe Sara, and all that.
The Holiday, I know.....aren't I the lucky one.
Here's how it came about.
Last year I plucked up courage to go on my first holiday on my own - ever.!!! I met a nice lady and we stayed in touch.
I mentioned that I seen this holiday and was very tempted. However, travelling solo can be very expensive so I was a bit hesitant, it was a lot of money for a single cabin.
Anyway she asked me if I would be happy to share a cabin with her, I said yes and she did the rest. She shopped around and haggled and got us a great deal.
I joked about my bucket list but it's true I have always wanted to go to South America and here's my chance. Unfortunately we won't be going to Rio (Sotuh America is a biiiiig place!!!) but I will get to visit the Amazon basin.
I am soooooo excited!!! I have paid my deposit so now I will just try and forget about it for a while and concentrate on getting my life in order.
I'm 65 and I want to travel a bit over the next few years whilst I am well enough. Actually the lady I'm travelling with is 70 (although you would never guess) and she was telling me about her friend who has just booked a round the world cruise.
Her friend is 85:D. So hopefully I've a got a fair few travelling years in me yet. :rotfl:
In all seriousness, like AC is doing, its all about carving a new life for myself. My husband died at 57 and didn't make it to retirement. I have had to completely rethink my life.
THe gods of fate have thrown down the gauntlet, I have picked it up and am ready for the challenge.
Bring it on!!!!
How wonderful your trip sounds LL. My mum and stepdad did a cruise to South America in 2014 and had a wonderful time. They are an inspiration to older travellers as both widowed, my dad died 23 years ago at the age of 63 when my mum was 58 and she met a widower about 10 years later and they were married when she was 70 and he was 73. Since then they have done no end of holidays, many cruises all over the world and are now 81 and 84 and have been married 10 years. Only now is their health starting to suffer.
My DH is retiring next month at the age of 58 and I hope to join him in the next 2 years and cruises to South America sound right up our street.
Sorry about your break-in and glad to see you are unharmed although it would obviously have shaken you up.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Enthusiastic saver. Ah what a nice romantic story. How lovely that your mum had a second chance with a new love.
Just shows AC. You are never too old to start a new exciting life. And love can find you at any age. Miss Right may well be waiting in the wings as we speak.
Good news about your early retirement. You'll love it. Just been chatting to a neighbour who retired a few weeks ago. She loves her new life.
Just been for my walk. So humid. I don't wish to sound indelicate but as we used to say in Glasgow "sweat was beltin oot me":rotfl:0 -

Not looking forward to the creepy crawlies. Will have to build up my quinine levels, mozzies adore me. I have a bite on my foot at the moment and I've not even been anywhere.
Still - Good excuse for lots of gin and tonics.......:rotfl:
Is it any wonder the mozzies adore you, hm??? At least the little fornicators will die happy.0 -
Just getting home, and outside my home, and on the neighbours front garden , is a sign ' success ' chase Buchanan .
Success for them- confusion and worry for me .
Miss right LL ? More like mistake . I'm good at those .
Oh well..0 -

AC, no need to be confused or worried. Share your thoughts with your friends here and we (or most of us) will try to help and guide you when needed.
You're on the verge of opening a new and exciting chapter of your life, look forward to that, not back to the bad times.0 -
Thanks harz
I must admit , I no longer look on the bad time as such . Whether at home or work . Just feel like a boxer who had one too many fights .
Once I have a proper base to go on , and eventually a pet time job I'll be fine then .
Looking at costs . I'll definitely need to pay around £1000-1500 a year service charges. There are some , where I may be lucky and pay around £800. Mainly flats .mainly share of freehold.
Must say, 3 out of the 5 I viewed last week were very well kept .
Can't see me going to that area again till next week . I'll see what survey says . Half of me says , if it doesn't go through now , relist it next year if the prices go up . Being totally broke as I am at present , will be interesting if that happens .
Oh well0 -
Forgot to add, August : moved to this place in August . Remortgaged in August ( possibly twice ). Now , here I am after agreeing to sell li August .0

It's an omen, it's an omen :rotfl:
Obviously August is your month, when all the planets align in your favour
When the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars......all together now.......
"this is the dawning of the age ........."
Ignore me I'm just being silly.;)
Re Chases "success" sign - it's just, them bragging that they've sold your flat. I've noticed quite a few EAs do that now. A good old fashioned "sold" sign isn't enough apparently.
They now have to blow their own trumpets and tell the world they are masters of the universe.
Ps --next August.......you get hit by a thunderbolt when Miss Right enters your life. Lol.0
