Following your oartner around so they can further their career can be extremely difficult. In many cases the one doing the following has to make a lot of sacrifices, their own jobs, friends, parting from families, no support network.

Flying solo can have its advantages. :rotfl:

Completely agree LL, like I mentioned, I know people in this situation, one of my overseas friends moved with her DH to a city she adored, they only stayed for 18 months before they had to move again, she was terribly upset but as a 'trailing spouse' she settled into the new country quite quickly. It's very hard in either situation so yeah, there's a lot to be said for flying solo.
  • My god
I'm away a few hours , and all of a sudden more fantastic help :)
I've just got most of the important stuff to hand( 3 years ground rent& maintenance charges, mortgage statements passport etc).
No sign of the deeds , so I guess mr solicitor can ask Santander for a copy :)
Feel much better after that , and you are all right in what you say.
Looking at evrything further , it seems Westbourne is where I should settle. Close to all the shops . Close to Bournemouth , and a bus ride away from where my friend lives in lower parkstone .:)
I will view purbeck heights on Thursday , just to have my first look :)
It means I'm doing it for sure . Will try if I can fit a place to view in Westbourne .
Lady & LL , thanks for sharing so much about your earlier experiences .
Means I have to move my backside and do it :)

lady1964, I am so sorry if this disappoints, but you are about to get a dose of the real Smodlet. I think what we all need, at this point on a Bank Holiday week end, is a little dose of lunacy, courtesy of MSE:

AC, when you are down in Poole, can I recommend you buy something along these lines, and also get a copy of the bus timetable and routing for the m1/m2 services so you know how close any property is to the principal bus route.

Much easier than squinting at a smartphone map, especially in bright sunlight.

    Happy hunting.
  • Thanks very much harz . Definitely on my list :)

I prefer "proper maps" too. Lol.

Solicitor instructed. She advised to hang fire on booking survey until she has had a look at the pre contract enquiries.

Fair enough she's the boss now. I have used her for years now and she has always served me well. I can relax knowing I'm in good hands.

Have spoken to my travel agent. Am going to postpone the Cyprus trip. I dont want to be away for 4 weeks. I want to get stuff done. I will keep the May holiday - it's only 12 days out of the country
and is over 6 months away so plenty of time to get organised.

That gives me a good 6 months to shift 2 stones, sort my back out and get fitter.

When do you go to Poole again.

    Hello AC and all,

I've had a bad few weeks so haven't been able to log on and then when I did, I got all discombobulated with how much had gone on in just that week! I'm still struggling to catch up and get up to date, so thought it's time I write and say a massive congratulations on finding your buyer! You got there before me and I'm so happy for you.

I'm up to page 63, so at this point I'm still not sure if you've found a place to rent, actioned your solicitors or decided to put you life in the hands of fate by wandering into work wearing just a smile and suspenders just to see what happens! Don't spoil the ending for me as I'm still holding out for that particular post!!!! :D

Fantastic news on getting off the hamster wheel and starting to live your life on your own terms.

I'm tempted to ask which particular Cafe Nero you wander into at lunchtime, but that would just be wrong of me! :o Although if I do overhear a conversation in the one I go into about a local office man who recently wandered in wearing the most beautiful stockings then I shall know who they're talking about and that we frequent the same coffee shop.;)

Smodlet - you're right, I do like playing with words. I love the English language and how you can push 2 words into one, or if you're clever enough a bunch of words into a whole new and bigger meaning, although I have to say that not many people pick up on it and I would also like it noted that the term Amazeballs isn't one I've genuinely used. I was once a fan of "fantasmagorical" but that was quite some time ago!!!

LL - if you do go into life coaching, or even property buying and selling coaching then I too need to be signed up! I'm at the ready for the glowing review. You have such a lovely way at putting a point across and an even lovelier way of not hiding from an honest opinion while keeping it as tactful as the point requires.

Hi MuffinTops! It's great to see you back and I hope you are feeling much better, now. :j
  • Hello all :)
Muffin, I hope things get better for you . Sorry to hear about your torrid time of late .
I jump on a bus to Blackfriars , and go to the Nero around the corner from there . Wastes time , as the nearer ones are too near and I get bored quickly . The one in Leadenhall is ok :)
You'll probably see, ive worn out everyone and their dog on here for many pages . Feel better frame of mind today :)

LL - you have so much going on , but you should pamper yourself first and then the rest will happen when you're ready IMHO :)

Just checked with my colleague . He has nothing to throw a spanner in the works that I know of, so will see purbeck heights on Thursday .
(Trying to be secretive about your movements is a pain ).
Received an email , listing other properties . Will try and book them for Thursday also . The idea: get 93o train to parkstone - look at hopefully 3 properties or so checking the area a little - get home around rush hour ( odd but fast / semi fast train will be ok) .
Then..go back next week .. To Westbourne .
( will buy maps on Thursday ):)0
