I decided to refrain from commenting on Teachers post, coming as it did out of nowhere and being so "left field" and all.......
As for Terills advice - well this might be ok for a thrusting young go getter but not someone who is looking to build themselves a stable long term future. AC does not need the added stress of being a landlord. I think he has plenty on his plate to be going on with.
AC I can only assume they have only read the first page of your thread and haven't got to know you the way us "old timers" have.:rotfl: we have got to know your little quirks, your fears, your preferences, your hopes and dreams and so we have tailored our advice to suit you.
(I bet they don't know how much you detest garlic:rotfl:)
What we are offering is a "bespoke service" to fit you.
To Terill and Teacher, yes you both offer viable alternatives but they are not what AC wants or needs.
He has made himself quite clear on several occasions.
He has had enough of the rat race, he's had enough of London. He wants to secure himself a comfortable stress free future. He needs a break from the daily grind so he can reclaim his health and get fitter. He wants to be able to afford a social life and maybe the odd holiday.
Then when he's rsted and healthy again he will look for a less stressful job without having to endure a long commute.
AC has identified that the best way to achieve all of this is by moving out of London.
Now I appreciate that it might sound like a radical solution to some but I do assure you people do it all the time and Often with spectacular results.
Why would anyone want to slog away at a job they hate, with people they dislike, enduring a long and tiring commute for what is (sorry AC) but only an average salary.
Why would anyone wish to remain in debt up to their eyeballs, unable to afford to go anywhere or do anything or have anything like a decent social life.
Why would anyone want to continue to live such an unhappy existence, getting more and more tired and worn out, and possibly making themselves sick again when they have the remedy in their own hands.
(Again sorry AC I don't mean to make you sound like a total loser - it's not your fault that you fell ill - it's just that I'm cross on your behalf. You have made such strides conquering your fears and anxieties and I'm annoyed that people are trying to undermine your decisions).
AC I think you have been both extremely brave and eminently sensible. You took a good hard look at your situation, didn't like what you saw and resolved to Improve it. I salute you, my friend.
I know how difficult your journey has been. Mine has been a parallel one. I know from my own experience what it's like to have to start a new life, as do many of the contributors to this thread.
AC - no one is ever too old to make a fresh start. Anyone can "change their stars"
Yes it takes time, it also takes faith and it takes guts.
You have to be made of the "right stuff"
AC - you are made of the "right stuff". Yes you have the odd wobble, it's only to be expected. You are stepping out into unknown territory and only a fool does so without a little trepidation. Trepidation is normal.
I think you will be just fine. Your head is in the right place, you've faced your demons and defeated them. You've shown courage and fortitude. Yes I'm sure there will be a few hiccups along the way but you can deal with those.0 -
Thanks. Karonher
You've explained a lot , by your excellent editing .0 -

Wil buy maps , and probably distress flares .
Won't buy the panic alarm just yet .:)
Good luck with the viewings.
If you get the opportunity try and pop into the local pub or shop in the area you looking at. Try and strike up a conversation with someone local - you will learn loads that way.0 -
Thanks again LL
You've now sorted it all out
I could suggest marriage . Unfortunately , garlic says 'no!':)0 -
Was that a proposal:rotfl::rotfl:
I'm flattered. Sorry but I cant give up the garlic.0 -
If you feel the need to get a panic alarm AC, it needs to be very carefully selected so that only those of us who have read every post of yours through your journey can hear it! Woebetoed (for you Smodlet
) anyone who hears the alarm and runs forward shouting "are you insane? stay put and hide in the shadows young man"
I'm sorry, I don't mean to make fun of well meaning posts, it's just that it also bothers me that they're knee jerk reactions with an obvious lack of knowledge or understanding of AC's story.
A bus to the coffee shop sounds like a good plan to really get away from things at lunchtime. Your last summer of needing that escape plan! Nero's do the best lemon muffin! It's a breakfast weakness of mine.

Thanks muffin
Lemon muffin sounds good .
Hope you get a buyer soon. Mine happened nexpectedly
3 viewings, 4 weeks of not hearing from them , then / offers at once0 -
Were you put on this earth to suffer this lifestyle?
Used carefully you have enough profit in your property to keep you going for years. Try a working visa in Australia or better still New Zealand and see what you have been missing. If you can earn a bob or two to supplement your savings you will do fine - it does not even have to be full time work a bob or two from part time work will protect your savings for years.
What are you waiting for?0 -

OoooohhhhKay... it took me a while, MuffinTops :rotfl: I could not understand why you would accuse my toes, whom you have not met, of being woeful... please excuse me a moment while I choke laughing... ahem. Back now.
Random posts... now this is purely a theory, of mine, therefore skeptical to the point of acerbic but... school holidays nearing their end... boredom setting in... just a theory and no disrespect whatsoever intended, I'm sure.
Other than that, how's everybody doin' and what LL and harz99 (hi again) and MuffinTops and Karonher said... innit? For you, MT; randoms, mate, complete randoms, innit?
Good luck tomorrow, AC and fret not if you don't find the right one straightaway, it is out there.
LL, you take it easy, how many more torture sessions to go and are they working?0 -
Apparently a lot of people are retiring to places like Thailand. It's not for me - I'd miss my boys - but I can see the attraction.
But yes John I agree with the sentiments of what you are saying. Adopting a simple stress free life, downsizing etc not only frees capital it can free the soul too.
I think AC will "find himself" and find his own particular bit of paradise.
There's more than one path to Nirvana.but certainly getting off that hamster wheel is the best way to start.
