Yes LL , you are right
sorry to make you blue in the face .
I will look into renting ,for a while .
I think my friend was a bit worn out ( obviously not the only one), about me asking him for help.
I think I have been too needy, which is not normally like me .
I need to think logically, and stop over thinking everything .
Please continue in this thread0 -
Hello AC, I have been reading your thread from the beginning but haven't really felt that I would have much to add to the existing posts from those who have been supporting you. I probably still don't!
Please may I add another (small) voice to the messages suggesting that you rent for a short initial period? Spending time in an area as a visitor can feel vastly different from living there permanently. You may find that some areas are lovely to visit but don't fully meet your needs, even if you compromise, as a permanent resident. Like you, I am looking for my home and having sold, we are renting for a while. This does give you the opportunity to get a proper feel of the area and to avoid making a horribly expensive mistake.
I wish you all the best with whatever choices you make.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Thanks ancient . So many pages now:)
Yeah, it makes sense . I think I have worn everyone out .
I won't say much to my friend about it now. All has been said .
We've been friends for over 30 years, so he knows me inside out I guess.
Looking at all of the positive messages here, I think it's overwhelmingly obvious to sell first, and not do anything till we've exchanged.
( except get advance for rent as the great LL has mentioned)

i have been following this tread from the start and am truly delighted that you have a buyer.
as a long time mover around following jobs- let me suggest a really good option. you could lodge in a house with a similar person for a few weeks or months till you get a real feel for the place. it will be cheaper than renting an apartment fully in your name. i know that this may not be ideal but look at short term lets or even holiday lets during the off-season as it could give you cheap rent and a chance to really know where you want. even with storing stuff in a storage unit it will be not that expensive.
please rent as often when you live in a place you realize the practical considerations that area important when house hunting like: xyz street has a one way system that is very slow or no proximity of corner shops or good transport links or the excellent pub/restaurant.
I have never in all my moves found a place that i would not live happily for a long time, i find every area has some thing amazing but it may be 4 or 5 miles away from the initial place you settled. move there, investigate and explore- as you will find the ideal place for you.0 -
With regards to renting or buying and the disagreement between here and AC's friend. I would like to say that AC's friend knows him and we don't. Are you a procrastinator AC? Is your friend concerned that you will start to rent and 2 years later still be renting and your capital decreasing whilst prices are rising? If so and you are still not sure about Poole then go for a tenancy that is really short term with no scope to extend.
It all depends why you are moving to an area , I feel it is for the friends rather than the environment? Has anywhere got a good support group for MG? So which of your friends do you like the best and is going to be there for you more than the others? What hobbies do you have or would like to have and what amenities for those hobbies are there? If you are a painter then by the sea is a definite advantage.
Just googled Myaware and was surprised to see there is a support group in my little town!! Made me laugh, everyone else is Somerset, Oxfordshire and then there is Brighouse support group!0 -
Thanks cat, and saving for tomorrow
Not really a procrastinator TBH . At least I don't think so
If something has to be done, I do it .
Interesting question about my friends. They are all married ,and I am not.
Some have grown up children .
I come from a large family. Get on with them all, including nieces / nephews:)
One of my friends lives in forest hill. He will end up in Margate in a couple of years . Another in Watford . Not a lover of Watford ( sorry).
Farnham is nice, but I cannot afford to be there.
South Shields ? I doubt it , but there are bands on at the weekend .
. One of the reasons why I want to go there
It wouldn't take me too long to make friends there, but it is a very long way. Big move if I do.
So, that brings me to PooleMy friend there thinks that I over worry, and that I'll be fine. He does however , think that it would be hard to find work and that any cash I have remaining will be gone . Probably why he says 'just by something , you can't go wrong'. 'Don't spend a grand a month' I can just about to afford to buy a place in Poole .
Interests ? There is always a band on in Poole . I play bass guitar, although I haven't played it for a couple of months.
I was thinking of jamming in a rehearsal room / someone's house on a weekly basis. Done with gigging TBH , but wouldn't mind doing a birthday gig or something .
The guy in South Shields = awesome guitarist. Guy in Poole ? Keyboard guy who records . Guitarist is multi talented . Great graphic designer , but doesn't need to do that . Keyboard guy, web designer. Now he is a procrastinator and needs a kick. Very sluggish in doing things:)
The other guys ? Art directors and management accountants and it wizards:)
Other interests ? I'm struggling TBH . Wouldn't mind learning to paint. I don't know .0 -
Wow AC , I didn't have you down as a bassist. That's a fab talent to have
Remember to get on to the CAB this week, for benefit advice"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"
(Kabat-Zinn 2004):D:D:D0 -
Thanks candy
Nothing special, just play songs for fun.
I'm thinking about the cab/ doctors thing . Don't think the cab will be this week, but I'll do a lot of googling now and see what, happens .0 -
"find yourself a rock n roll band
That needs a helping hand".....:D
Proof of ID and funds sent to EA, will instruct solicitor on Tuesday morning. All I can do for the moment.
Have decided not going to live there straight away....... Might let it out for a while whilst I do other stuff.
TRavel, do a college course or start a business?? or all three?
Decisions. :rotfl:
Well at least Ive got the big one out of the way - a bolt hole for my future security.
AC. This time next year this will be you, move complete, house sorted. And on to the good stuff.
You're on your way now.0 -
Wow! Things are happening fast for you LL
So many options
I looked on the my aware website, amongst others.
TBH, it doesn't look like I'd get far claiming for my condition.
I did email a chap on the my aware website regarding benefits, so he'll know.
I had the full blown out symptoms last year of dyspraxia ( choking on food),and I saw a speech therapist on 2 occasions.
What I was aiming for, is for my doctor to sign me off for 18 months, I then lose lots of weight , get my new life sorted and start work again when I'm settled. However, as I already knew , the gvt will try to put you on other jobs etc.
The only other thing is , my next appointment with specialist at st Thomas hospital is in second week of November . Maybe I could ask him?
Having said that, I could be in Poole by then ..0
