It's Mooncups (Link) every month in this house. I realise this option isn't to everyone's taste.

You beat me to it. Love my mooncup :)

  • Hubby had argument about money (all we argue about when we argue) as he wanted £10 out of our bills account to buy crap (fags and energy drinks)

Whenever my OH tries to pull a fast one like this, I just ask which bill he thinks we shouldn't pay/category the money should come from

The acknowledgment that it will affect things further down the line soon knocks that one on the head ;)

    Thanks for starting Jonno

Welcome to the thread JHiggins91 and SpekySquarehead :T

    Congrats JoJo!

Today is pay day so I've updated my banking, moved some money around into savings pot e.g. car insurance and withdrawn food money for the month. I think we'll have a trip to ALDI tonight as the cupboards are practically bare.

I updated my signature last night (couldn't wait for today - how sad!). My loan has gone down more than I thought it had so I've updated it and know what my revised payments are between now and when it'll be paid in March :)

FPL and surveys to do tonight

Not a NSD as I bought my grandma's Christmas present online (a bottle of perfume). Sticking to my one-present rule!

Very busy day at work but it's been quite enjoyable so far

Need to fill up the car as have to go to a neighbouring city for work tomorrow morning. I can claim the fuel I use back :)

Read Martin's email tonight and reply to a friend :money:

    Thank you!
Will try that one next time!
He says that it will go back in but it never does and then I'm the one that gets moaned at for saying we should be saving more money!! haha

  • chocolatelover it took my oh a long time to get frugal, with lots of *encouragement* from me. He's not perfect and sometimes he messes up but I have tried to focus on the good things he does and let some things slide in recognition of what he does do. Cigarettes would definitely not come out of the house fund, personal spends only for that type of luxury item!

Oh and for what it's worth I don't think babies are as expensive as made out to be! I got a lovely cot free, Moses basket I borrowed and all of dgd's clothes, shoes, activities comes out of her child benefit. Food hasn't increased since having her. Our gc spends have been £165 for the last couple of months but I have just increased it to £185 (as found last month we ended up getting takeaways a couple of times so have increased gc spends by £5 pw to get something easy and scrummy in to avoid TA temptation!) this includes all nappies & wipes
    DF as at 30/12/16
    Wombling 2026: £25.70
    Grocery spend challenge Feb £285.11/£250
    GC annual £389.25/£2700
    Eating out budget: £ 48.87/£300
    Extra cash earned 2026: £185

Thank you for the advise :) xx
I think when we do find out we're expecting I'll buy bits throughout the pregnancy and think I'll be looking out for bits on Freegle etc.
Just hope hubby can at least cut down on smoking by then - I know I probably have annoying habbits but mine don't cost me lots of money and can potentially ruin my health, just wish he would see it like that :/

Hi folks - have actually managed to catch up today

Bob - hope you are resting to recover
Jojo - congratulations on the promotion
Kayannie - freebie a day sounds fun
And what have I been up to?
Not much - working. But DH was off & has made soup & meals for the next few days - excellent (especially as the nights are now dark & cold). Just as well I cleared the fridge out yesterday
    But my list...

    Proactive MSE-ing

    • Complaint to Co-op to ask for my money - done
    Winter prep
    • Draw up black out box list ready for assembly (in case of power cuts). Not paranoid but live pretty rurally - done
    • Order 3 months worth of medication to see me over Christmas / New year - done
    Christmas prep
    • Draw up Christmas list - pressies for who & what are they getting (and what do we have in already) - needs to be done - done

Round tuit (as in I'll get a round tuit) not strictly money saving but clears my mind
    • Clean out bill drawer - this is calling me - might be next
Good habit forming (28 days to set a habit into daily routine or something like that - I'm going for 1 a week)
    • Post on here once a day 3/28
    Happy cheapness and freeness
    • More Walking Dead tonight via Amazon Prime - didn't realise these boxed set things were so addictive - not sure about this for tonight yet - coming home to fire lit, tea made & my wee house is happiness enough for me
Does anyone know how I can get smilies on my laptop?

Must go - but will catch up again tomorrow - keep up the good work folks

Jonno thank you for getting us stated.

Bob I hope you are feeling better and will soon be mended.

Foxgloves How do I find your blog? it sounds interesting and might motivate me to do something with our garden.

Kayannie I like the idea of a freebie a day, think I might join you in this challenge if I may

    Jojo Congratulations on you promotion.

*Wrote letter of complaint to MP (about a money saving issue.......just found out he voted in favour of continuing to tax women's sanitary protection products as 'non-essential items'. If you have a Tory MP, they will almost certainly have voted the same way. Anyway, I felt strongly enough about it to write a letter. Can remember my Granny telling me how they all had to use rags & boil them clean ready for the next month. Non-essential, my a*se!!

I'm sure they wouldn't be taxed if men used them.
