JoJo - Good news about the promotion opportunity. We love good news on here, don't we?
DNMS - Glad you enjoyed reading my blog. I didn't set out to write a money-saving blog, but since I took VR, my life has been very much more about living a simpler life, so with my love of gardening, cooking, etc, that's kind of what it's mostly about. I'm quite active politically too, so I guess that sometimes comes across as well. If you read last summer's post about my inability to grow butternut squash, there was no improvement this year! Gave my plant the best spot in the greenhouse & it didn't even produce one fruit worth eating. Bah!! The jammy buns wouldn't win any beauty contests, but they are nice with a coffee & mr f loves them. Sometimes, I'll say 'I'll bake you a cake, what do you fancy?' & I get my baking books out, cos I like a challenge & he just says, 'Can't you just make some of those jam buns?' Easy for small children to help with too, as it's just rolling into balls & making a hole in the middle, so maybe your little DGD can join in.
f x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Afternoon Wednesday Pence-Wanglers,
Thanks for all the good wishes for our anniversary yesterday. We had a lovely evening. The frugal peppermint creams went down well. mr f said 'Ooooh, these are nice. How did you make these?' And I rather spoiled the magic by saying. 'Well, you remember that lump of leftover icing I chucked in the freezer.......?' They worked though, so I shan't throw leftover fondant icing away again, I shall freeze it ready for making peppermint creams when I next want something to serve with after-dinner coffee.
Not much money saving today, but here goes:
*NSD as have stayed in.
*Made stock overnight in the slow cooker.
*Eating leftovers from last night.
*Did laundry overnight on cheap tarif. Very rainy here though, so have hung it on heated airer to be switched on overnight.
*Washed hair & let it dry naturally. Shall have to get the straighteners on it briefly though, or people may think I'm modelling a Hallowe'en wig.
*Ate a pear. I think the end of them may finally be in sight. La E - I did wonder about selling them to a local farm shop, but as they are all shapes & sizes, I thought I might get less than I thought they were worth to me if I used them.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Wrote letter of complaint to energy provider.
*Wrote letter of complaint to MP (about a money saving issue.......just found out he voted in favour of continuing to tax women's sanitary protection products as 'non-essential items'. If you have a Tory MP, they will almost certainly have voted the same way. Anyway, I felt strongly enough about it to write a letter. Can remember my Granny telling me how they all had to use rags & boil them clean ready for the next month. Non-essential, my a*se!!
*Hopefully some knitting later. I need to get some prep done for a meeting tonight, but once that's out of the way, I can work on Dad's jumper.
Love to all.....Oh &.Bob - if you pop in, I do hope your horrible lergy is on its way out.

Hi All
Congratulations JOJO. Welcome to spekysquarehead. I am a random poster of gibberish. Love this thread. Peeps here are full of small things that really add up. My life changed when Martin Lewis put up the latte calculator thingy. I had really never added up the sum of my small spends. Who would have thought a lunch at work of £5 would really add up to £25 or in excess of £100 a month!
Today I failed to get a packed lunch and have spent £4 on quiche and a roll. Very wasteful, but it was lovely to eat.
Washing done this morning.
Cod in butter sauce and mash for tea, need to get to cellar past DH junk on stairs to get potatoes. Not very health and safety conscious isn't my DH.
Hope to finish my knitting project. Also need to find library card. Really fancy a twirl around the library.
Have a great day all.

Afternoon everyone

Thank you Jonno for starting us off today
Bob - Hope you're feeling better
DNMS - Good luck with interview tomorrow
Foxgloves - Glad you and Mr F had a nice meal! It angers me about the sanitary items too! Can tell it's a man, never had to deal with Aunt Flo!! I think they should be free anyway as we need them and they are an essential!!
CCL - Hope your hand is feeling better soon
SpekySquarehead and JHiggins - welcome to the thread
everyone on here is so nice and supportive
Kayannie - I like the sound of the "Freebie a day"
JoJo - Congratulations on the promotion
Can officially say I've now caught up with the thread's!!
Pay day for me today
although come into work this morning and it turns out our overtime has been paid twice so got more than I should've (even though it wasn't much more, but meant I paid more tax ) It means next month we won't be paid as much and they've said the tax will balance out. Just annoying though
coming towards our quiet time of the year now too meaning that not so much OT so not so much money
Hubby had argument about money (all we argue about when we argue) as he wanted £10 out of our bills account to buy crap (fags and energy drinks) however he's got an E-Cig (he got a new one Sun which was £30 that is cheap considering it should be £50 and £10 for a battery) and I got him some drinks to take to work but he hasn't taken them. I find it really hard sometimes as it seems like I'm the one that is working my butt off to save money so he can go and spend it on crap. And he does work hard and is on commission only but still he needs to realize that if we saved money we could have nicer things and go on more holiday's etc. Plus we're planning on starting a family so I told him he has a massive shock coming to him as I know babies arn't cheap. Plus I'll only get SMP so he'll become the main bread winner
does anyone else have the same problem with their OH?
Doing a full day at work today (8.30 - 8.00) so not going to have time to do much (means I'll have less time to spend too :P) day off tomorrow though, having someone to come and look at dodgy boiler and my friend is coming over (hopefully) so will hopefully get more done tomorrow
Anyway enough of me moaning, list for today:
- NSD (well me anyway!)
- B/L/D from stores (all from cooking I did yesterday)
- FPL
- Lucky Phone
- Blog Post
- Survey(s)
- Set up SO for rent (WILL get this done - fed up seeing them on here)
- Read Martin's email
Wow massive post for me today but little list!!

And yes they are essential! I remember a while back listening to the radio and there was a woman who decided to run the marathon without using tampons/towels as too conformable to use anything for that distance and she got so much grief and was called dirty!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89

I totally agree. Might follow this up myself.
It's Mooncups (Link) every month in this house. I realise this option isn't to everyone's taste.
