Made some leek and potato soup today, lots of pepper - yummy :)

Love seeing what's left over in the fridge and using it up - enough for lunch tomorrow for DH and I and my work lunches for next week.

This week tesco had red peppers reduced for 10p so three of those and a couple of ropey toms in the fridge roasted off then simmered in chicken stock and blitzed with a dash of cream and a bit of fresh basil made a beautiful soup

At the same time I roasted a butternut squash and some chestnuts and a slice of smokey bacon. Had that soup last night with cheesey croutons. Very rich and filling will have the rest tonight

I hadn't eaten all day so enjoyed a double portion of HM chilli butternut squash soup just now. Yum-galumptious.

I'd like to recommend this soup. I made a pot using a smoked ham hough instead of the bacon and it was lovely. Really filling and tasty.

The ham hough made me think of doing yellow split pea and ham - so its on my to-do list :)

My nan used to make if for me. She would use the liquid from boiled bacon as stock. She would tie split peas in a rag and make peas pudding, some to have with boiled bacon and some for split pea soup.
  • anyone use a soup maker? been thinking of getting one for a year or so now ...
Kevie192, what model do you have?

favourite soup is roast squash with tons of pepper ...

I feed 6 people at a time, so I am afraid I use a big pot and make extra for lunches during the week.

  • Whilst I agree that soup makers do sound a good idea, I would rather use my old stock pot (or overnight in the slow cooker) and liquidise with my whizzer. I prefer to batch cook and freeze the soup in one-person portions.

I can not personally see the point of soup makers

I have a stock pot. It's nultfuctional. I use it to cook gammon, braised beef , pot roast and soup plus a lot of things I can't list right now

That and a stick blender (£5) suits me to the ground

But then I cook in batches. I'll have soups, bread, mince dishes etc etc all on the same time so I'm in the kitchen watching everything

I keep toying with the idea of a soup maker, as I find quantities hard to judge, so just putting it to a fill line appeals! The only maker I've seen though is £50, which is more than I'd like to pay. My one occasion I tried to make soup in the slow cooker, I think was the worst I'd ever made, just very bland and watery.

Haven't made this myself, but had this recently as a starter. It isn't a flavour I've come across before.

    Leek, broccoli and fennel.

I'm getting into the soup habit again. In the past week I've enjoyed

Carrot, cumin and kidney bean soup (jack Monroe)
Spicy lentil and tomato (was a bit watery, so more lentils next time)
Curried parsnip soup, thickened with some pearl barley before blending)

I have a microwave soup mug which is fantastic and helps me get my 5-a-day
