I always split these things down by use.

If you spend £50 on a soup maker, and you use it all the time, then It's worth it. If you use it a couple of times then park it in the cupboard, then it's not. It,s whether it's worth it for you.

I,m a lucky thing as For a wedding present, I received a Thermomix from my new hubby - an expensive food mixer, but I use it several times a day, and I would not be without it, it,s even started to earn me money with a small scale food business - horses for courses as they say.

I love making and eating soups. I've got a soup maker and use all the time.
If I'm doing roast veg I always do extra and once it's cooked I put some in the soup maker with either chicken or veg stock, 10 minute simmer then blend and it's done. Great family favourite.
Another favourite is tomato and basil. 1 carrot, 2 onions then what ever tomatoes you have handy, fresh, tinned or passata. I like to use a tin of Aldis tomatoes with herbs and garlic along with either fresh tomatos or passata depending on season. I like to use fresh basil leaves but dried basil is just as good, blend when cooked, delicious :)
How much does it make though, in litres? :D

Just emptied one of the salad crispers in the fridge and thought I'd make a huge pot of soup today. Into it went:

    2 leeks
    2 parsnips
the innermost stalks of a bunch of celery (including the leafy bits)
    4 small English apples
2 heads of broccoli (including stems)

Sliced leeks & celery and saut!ed in butter. Added chopped broccoli stems, parsnips and continued to saut! so they softened whilst I chopped the apples. Added those along with a teaspoon of ground cumin, salt & pepper and a litre and half of veg stock. Simmered for 15 mins, adding in broccoli florets for the last 5 mins. Then blendedwith stick blender before adding the juice of a lime and a little more seasoning to taste.

This has made approx 2.5 litres of soup and cost less than £1 for the ingredients :money:
  • My current soup of choice is sweet potato and red pepper (I need to make a batch tomorrow actually to use up bits of veg). I'm quite fussy generally so I'm still trying to find soup recipes that work. I'm currently looking around for a good sweetcorn chowder-style recipe, preferably not using dairy as I freeze most of my soups for term-time lunches. Any recommendations?
