I am shocked how I have stuck to a list all week - AMAZING!

£1.29 (unexpected spend - hubby ate 3 eggs for breakfast)
£11.35 in Tesco (necessary back to school lunches and fruit & veg)
£9.43 Lidl 70% off fruit and veg
    £49.78 main shop Tesco
    £71.85

I don't include Tesco delivery charge as because I don't drive I have to pay taxi fare - if it's a small week I do use my trolley dolly

+ 1,000 bonus points with code

    so £350 - £71.85 = £278.15

    roll on week 2...

    Hi quick update,

I did very well nipped to somerfield to get my milk, bread etc and spent £8.67 out of my remaining £12.23 this would have left me with £3.56 but not long before lunch tme I realised it is our wedding anniversary (5yrs) so met for lunch and treated ourselves to a bakery lunch......

anyways end result is I have 48p left out of my weekly budget, can I make it till monday????????

    Mel x
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.
  • Had an e-mail from Sainsbury's detailing loads of half price offers - some on stuff I use, so took a trip to Sainsburys............oh dear (sob!).

    The excuses start here:
    1. I did only buy stuff I will use
    2. It is all stuff that fits in with my meal plan for the month
    3. In theory, because I've stocked up, I shouldn't need to spend my full budget the rest of the month
    4. I'd forgotten, when I did my budget, that I needed to bake cakes for when I leave the department at work next week - so had to buy all the ingredients.

....ermmmmm, can't think of any more at the moment but if I concentrate really really hard, I'm sure I can think of something!!

No, seriously, despite my blip last week, I'm actually still reasonably sure I will come in just about on budget. I just need to be very careful that I don't get tempted over the next 2 weeks - hope I'm not speaking too soon.

    Fingers and everything else crossed!

    Hello everyone,

I am really pleased, despite a bad (but fun) start to the week, with the lunch out, I am under budget for the week. In fact that even includes the lunch. So that sort of makes up for the Tesco online e-coupon business (ahem).

However, new week starts tomorrow. I have to go to the city again (haircut) and pick up parents from airport (hope that plane is on time, or it will be several coffees and a hard plastic chair). So temptation on every corner. Also, tomorrow is veg box delivery day, so that will be around £20 (but only once a fortnight in summer/autumn). It seems like a long way till the end of the month.......

Everyone seems to be doing OK or better at the moment. Good luck!

  • doing well in challenge only spent £41.18 so far, but i did do a big £120 tesco shop back end of last month. can anybody tell me should i be doing my tesco shop through quidco? do i still get points and can i use discount voucher codes? thanks
  • re the quidco question, I am pretty sure you don't get points on your grocery shopping (just on direct and other different depts)..

I am doing ok so far, only been buying bits and pieces - but I did have quite a bit in to start with before this new challenge started.

Popped into Morrisons yesterday for some essentials and was really pleased with myself for not getting stuff for the sake of it (like I usually would have done) the alcohol has hit the budget a bit this week, dh has been on the cider (this weeks spend includes £5 wine and £7.50 cider)

Anyway whilst I was in Morrisons as I don't go there much, I picked up a couple of their special offers - a good one was campbells condensed soup on bogof at the momen (didn't look at the end date though) I know a lot of you use that - I am going to do a chicken pasta bake and use that today for the kids - we are having chilli from the freezer so nice easy one for us..

Morrisons also have their organic range on a third off, including flour, juice, tea etc. The oj I was getting for ds lunches was cheaper in the organic range..

Also they are giving out £1 off vouchers for COw&Gate step up baby formula - with a long expiry date...

  • I'm doing well, from my sig. I've only spent a few quid on 'food' this week! :j

But I've spent over £12 on snacks this week  I've got to do a big stock-up on snacky items this weekend at the supermarket and not spend money at Boots every day on fruit and posh nutty bars. I bet they love mugs like me!

I really need to print out all the stuff I want from the online order site and take it with me, making sure I don't forget things! I forget stuff then buy it at expensive corner shops/snack stops during the week.

I find it works really well, as the one time I tried it I wanted to beat the printout and get it even cheaper.

Good luck to you all :D

  • Just back from Tescos and got this weeks shop. Just bread to get for week. Spent £19.03 and even squeezed in some treats. They had reduced their packet strawberry whips to 3p so bought a load to keep kids happy. :D

    AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE   £115.93/ £250

  • sorry about quidco thing still learning, what about shopping through my supermarket if you know you can only get tesco, is it worth it ?

Did another Tesco run today and ended up spending £14.08 - should have been £30.17 but with vouchers and coupons and BOGOFs it worked quite well for my PMS challenge.
