  • I somehow managed to get from last Wednesday until today without spending anything on food. I went to get some bits and pieces this morning, and came in at under £4, and I still have lots in the cupboards/freezer, so hopefully I won't be spending too much this week. I suppose I'll just have to see what happens.
  • Over half my budget gone in 1 week - SCARY!

However was well chuffed with Waitrose. Read on a difft forum that Waitrose take vouchers like Tesco's. So when I bought my friend her fave cheese as invited to her house for dinner party I spent £9.50 on the cheese (there were a lot us of going!) & used £3.50 in vouchers, so only paid £6.00. Tesco's only take 10% of total. Excellent.

The man in front of me played a blinder - he bought the last of the cream cheese & asked what they did with the empty pot - quite a funky one, plastic but looked like crockery. The nice lady said he could have it he wanted ,so he had that & all the unscraped out bits of cheese, probably another £1's worth if you really tried.

As he said "If you don't ask etc etc".

Hope budgets are going as you wish. Current total is £185 but that does include an emergency toilet seat!! We also had a rush of blood to the head & slashed the ents budget to £50 (from £150 - we did eat out a lot).

Take care all  (we can't afford to now!)
Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in infamy!!
  • Hi,
well so far i'm doing ok, the tesco man came with my weekly shop (£56.19) and i nipped into m&s for marg & bread rolls cos i'd forgotten to order the marg & dp was too busy drinking his beer last night to take the rolls out the oven so they burnt  that came to £2.26, quite pricey but was local so easy!!
fingers crossed i carry on this well

I spent £22.45 on shopping today which brings me to £52.45. I was good today though and only bought things on the shopping list :) (apart from 2 chocolate oranges for xmas as they are on offer)

  • Oh my God - everyone's doing so well (makes me feel bad!)

I am having a slight panic attack looking at how much I have left to last the month. However I do have loads in so will be revising my meal planner to make sure I am making the absolute most of leftovers/freezer stocks etc. (eg have cancelled the steak dinner and will have spinach for iron instead, maybe with pasta and creme fraiche).

Keep up the good work everyone. x

Not spent anything since last Wednesday, but will have to go to the convenience store for veggies and milk today.

    Good luck everybody.

    Hi

This is my first month of doing the grocery challenge, I am beginning to wonder if I have allocated an unrealistically too little amount each week or is it that I am not being strict enough. I work my budget Mon - Mon as this is the day I get money each week.

Do you on here think it is a reasonable amount?? (see sig for details)

I am asking this because it is only Tuesday and I have only around £10 left for the week but we need to get litter this week for Kittens, this is £9.??.

So will basically go over budget again this week. I think the main problem at the moment is we have only had kittens for two months and their appetite keeps changing also we are not too practiced on costing the litter and flea collars etc. and we have only had the bunnies for a few weeks so still not use to how much food hay etc they go through.

But I did still think this amount would be ok, I hope so because i can't really spare much more.

  • Went blackberrying yesterday (free food yay!:j :j )

So I made some crumbles and summer puddings and stuff for the freezer but used up all my sugar and bread so had to go out for more today.............oh dear £8.10!

Mind you, the extras I got were reduced things which will replace some of the meals I had got on my meal plan, so they will stay in the freezer for next month.......

On top of that, it looks like DH's planned trip may be cancelled so I will have to find extra food for him for 9 or 10 days, out of thin air!

Then DD, who is expecting grandbaby number 2 shortly, has asked if I can cook up a few meals for her freezer to help her out when little one arrives....again out of thin air!

Seriously, I think in the light of the above 2 unexpecteds, I may have to look at increasing this month's budget....I had dropped it by £40 because of OH going away....anyway, we will see how things pan out but I am not the happiest of bunnies! :wall:

redmel....as you can see by the above I'm afraid I'm not at all qualified to express an opinion on your budget, so I just want to say good luck with it anyway!

    cheers

Must be something about today... I felt down and ended up spending £8 in Morrissons on absolute cr4p. Nutella (on offer), choc mousse, choc brownie mix (bogof) & marmite! At least the latter was on the official list..

Have been really good lately so am v. disappointed to have been so weak today.
