Must be something about today... I felt down and ended up spending £8 in Morrissons on absolute cr4p. Nutella (on offer), choc mousse, choc brownie mix (bogof) & marmite! At least the latter was on the official list..

Have been really good lately so am v. disappointed to have been so weak today.

    hugs

glad i am not the only one today to have a weak moment

    Grocery challenge July 2016

  • I've just totalled up and I'm at £15 for this week already. I got lots of bargains though, and my freezer is so full it will barely shut. I also got some home baking stuff with the intention of making fairy cakes - I just need to find somewhere that sells cheap cocoa powder, so that I can make the cakes chocolate!
I think I've got enough stuff to last until the end of the week, but my boyfriend is probably coming over on Saturday, so I might have to get a few nibbles or something for then.
  • I am sailing a bit close to the wind as they say as I have only 6p left of this week's budget to stay on target for this month! However, I have avoided going to the shops by buying my main stuff online last week and only bought milk and bananas so far this week. I shouldn't need anything else until Thursday when I usually do my supermarket shop.

I think we will be living on chicken for the rest of the month as it is cheaper than other meat and you can do lots of things with the leftovers! I had a chicken costing £4-05* from Sainsbury's which the two of us have had roasted, and in a rice dish so far this week and I have put a chicken and leek lasagne in the freezer as well and had a round of sarnies for work out of it too. Fortunately although my OH loves his food he can't remember what he had from one day to the next, so it won't matter if I repeat stuff, though I do try to ring the changes.

The only 'problem' with not shopping as often is that I don't get the savings to put in my PMS fund!

Anyway, I am shattered after a hectic day at work so I'm off to bed now. Keep up the good work everyone - you are an inspiration!
    Moniker

*I know I could have bought an even cheaper one but I can't bring myself to eat a battery chicken.

Redmel - We have 3 kitties and try to eek out the litter without it getting smelly!
Day 1 Empty tray, disinfect, scrub, dry, fresh litter
Day 2 we pick out the poo with a pooper scooper and sprinkle in some shake'n'vac litter freshener (99p tub lasts us about a month), day 3 pick out poo again, sprinkle again and add a small amount of fresh litter. Day 4 start the cycle again.

We find that this way a bag of litter lasts longer without it getting smelly.

    Hope this helps.

Spent €31.44 in Tesco this morning and €6.66 in Aldi, meaning that I have €72.95 to last until the end of the month...thought I would do better as I am away for the first week of October and hoped to buy enough from this month's budget to stock up for breakfasts and dinners for DD4 and DGS2 while I am away...but who knows what will happen...will need meat I know and bits and bobs to keep us fed. Need to do another inventory of freezer and storecupboard and menu plan accordingly!

  • Glad to see everyone has been managing to more or less keep to budget. Well, I have not been on for a while - I was offered a job at very short notice, which is great, but means that the meal planning thing has gone out the window. I am away long hours (out the door at 6am and home about 8pm) and OH deals with the evening meal for himself and the boys, and mine gets reheated later. SO yay! on the job front, but boo on the ability to budget well this month... Hmm

I did a biggish shop last weekend, earlier than needed so I could batch cook the evening meals for the week (and to keep OH out of Tesco buying pizzas! ;) ). And to be honest there has not been much of an overspend as far as I can see. Yippee!:T My lunch has been sandwiches, which means extra bread and fillings (I would normally reheat leftovers/soup/or make boiled egg/omelette). Anyhoo, the totals are: Tesco 20.20/Tesco 36.34/Morrisons 15.49/Tesco 12.06. Total £84.00
Total to date is now £163.85 out of £270
so that leaves £106.15 til the end of the month:o . less than I had hoped.:(

    Hmm
gotta see what I can make that is easy for OH to heat up without much fuss, and is cheap. (he does not like to follow recipes - says they are not logical enough - "what do you mean cook until golden brown? how many minutes and seconds does that take?" )
:goes off to rummage through store cupboards and freezer.

    It's only a game

I have reached my week 2 of Sept grocery challenge & am really pleased with myself for coming in under budget this week.

    Week 1 & 2 together come to £178.99 (Budget £200)

Have already ordered my next week shopping from Mr Ts giving it a go for the 1st time as saw good voucher code for £7 off £50 shop and went through pigsback to get 5pts per £1 spent on 1st order.

Think I managed to get everything for whole week & order came to £51.

Still baking biscuits for snacks which everyone is enjoying.
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

Hiya... I'm a bit off already... I have 13 days left to next pay day

I've spent £140 already. I have £10 left for 13 days, but I have more than enough food left. So we shall see how I can do. On the plus side, OH won £45 from a £5 stake so if we need it, it's there. However, obviously, I would prefer to not have to!
