  • Thanks great (lol, great link as well as you being autocorrected!) ... I'd consulted google and it sat with bicarb all night, but seems to have made little difference ... so now trying the salt thing. V annoying as I actually got around to KM'ing excess pans etc a couple of weeks ago, so could do without needing to buy a new one now ...

  • If it isn't non stick I would nuke it with neat bleach.

Just make sure you rinse it all off before cooking again. Or a dishwasher tablet in a little hot water. Or baby bottle sterilising tablets.
  • Having metaphorically recovered them recently, thought I might post my headings ...

smiley-chores023.gif Flat (Stuff-free): Getting some stuff done this weekend. Will post about this properly later as am clearly procrastinating from getting on with it now ...

smiley-eatdrink026.gif Food: Yesterday was a successful one on this front ... for me / all things being relative. I'll never be an MWC/Tilly/Ed/all the other wondrous cooks on this board. But for the first time in a long time I did cook ... a fishpie of which a few portions frozen and rest for this week, roasted a languishing BNS probably for soup, and a dahl thingy now in fridge for the next few days. This used both some lentils possibly older than methuselah and my new SC that arrived at Xmas but has seen very little action :T
Been ages since I cooked properly; it's so easy not to bother when it's just me and I'm not out and about, but definitely felt better for it (probably the decent eating rather than the actual cooking) this morning.

(Not) Frittering: Very annoyed about possibly-terminally-ruined pan, still attacking it in hope. Otherwise yesterday only bought some fresh vegs to throw in the SC ... and today will be NSD if I can stick to herbal and not 'proper't for which I'd need milk ...

    Happy Sundays all!

Morning spent at job centre. Whilst I've been lucky with my adviser, who's been pragmatic and sensible thoughout, the general experience has been ... frustrating to say the least. But I've only got another month of JSA, as I'm on contribution-based, as I've got savings. I'm feeling very conflicted ... I know I'm lucky to have savings - well partly lucky, partly stupid to have been on IO dinosaur for so long without OPs. But savings mean no JSA after six months. I've tried and still am trying hard to find work, but it's really challenging - even Job Centre acknowledging there's no more I could be doing.

Anyhow, I'm feeling conflicted ... part of me wants to use savings to OP a limb off the dinosaur. If I had under £6k savings I would get income-based JSA so payments past March. But it feels the wrong time to be reducing my savings, as income nothing at moment and at best uncertain for foreseeable future. Even if this would work - and I've no idea whether there is some kind of rule saying it wouldn't - is it stupid? The low interest rates at the moment mean that what I'd save on my monthly interest payments would be small, and whilst adding that to further JSA payments would certainly be better than no income at all, I'm not sure whether that would outweigh the risk of having savings that would be gone in some months. But it also feels silly not to get payments when I am indeed seeking a job, and have worked very hard for many years and paid into the system.

Confuzzled. Head hurts. Thoughts welcome ....

I don't know if it applies to JSA, Holly, but I've heard that "they" look at recent outgoings before agreeing to means tested benefits.

Very frustrating for you, when you're looking and you've got debt and a means tested benefit.

I'd expect them to class it as Deprivation of Capital Hollybol - check out from 77 onwards.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Thank you both ... GG that reference is spot on - it must come within 78.3. So much for feeling conflicted - what a waste of time and energy. Grrrr that my adviser (whom I'd previously really rated) didn't know this when we discussed this morning. Yay for wonderful MFW board, peeps and support hug-2.gif

Must revisit whether to use some of savings to OP a bit ...

Have overdone it in the last couple of days. Actually fell asleep around 6pm; completely knackered. So will report more anon.

Meantime, though, shelving all this mortgage / income / actual goals malarkey ... for anyone who ever burns a pan, this is a top tip ... after many hours soaking and scrubbing with salt, bicarb, vinegar and washing up liquid I was about to abandon the pan. But a friend suggested a teaspoon of washing powder plus water, simmer for 10 mins. Amazing!!! It dissolved completely and I now have a shiny silver pan again :j:j
