Advents 2015 - Have Your Say!

I think that those of us, such as myself, who don't volunteer to run the advent thread should take a backseat and let those people who have run the thread in the past and who have offered to run it this year make all the decisions. People like me will then have to like it or lump it.
Ok, seeing as the invitation is there ... I'll start with the controversial ...
1. The most disheartening part of it was the amount of people who publicly said they wanted the thread, loved advents, couldn't wait for the thread to begin,[STRIKE] dictated[/STRIKE] voiced how it should be run & then did absolutely nothing to help for the whole eight weeks ... some actively went out of their way to avoid the thread & me (I won't be expanding on that). There was a lovely band of perhaps half a dozen people who helped, some of whom are rarely seen in the CCC, are not the "outspoken" members ... Nothing wrong with being outspoken, but it really, really irked ...
2. There were a few people who suggested at the time that it would be good if I could go down the lists each day and add at the side of the comp links the answer for the day and the prize. Absolutely out of the question. All the comps update at different times and this might seem easy when it first starts but by mid-December it would be crazy (you've seen the length of the lists!).
3. Some suggested whether it would be best to just have a thread linking direct to the competitions. This could work, but not for the ones that have a new question each day, unless people were happy with letting everyone figure the answer out for themselves ...
4. I ran a thread before advents 2013 started asking whether people had any ideas about changes to the set up ... there weren't many that would have worked. It seems people put up with it/liked it how it is.
5. Also agree with the social media poll. I haven't seen one. There was a perfectly good one on CCC that answered the question.
6. And YES there need to be another BG added to the forum.
And finally, despite my grumpiness, I did actually enjoy running the thread, even when I had flu ...

Advents are always hectic. But after a few days you get a feel for which ones you want to have a go at. I have tried Advents on different sites over the years and found the MSE one last year. I found it was very organised and easy to use. I for one would be happy to stick with the same again this year.0

I've seen some of your polls a lot of the people asked on fb don't use MSE or they would have known that every year there is a seperate thread for advents, so then what is the point in asking those people to give their opinion of how a service they don't use should work, surely it should be up to the members of MSE who use the forum and the advent sticky to say how they would like it to be run?You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

The poll here has finished, it ran for a week after being asked for by Mse Andrea.
People voted, majority want on main with a sticky.
I think the polls people are talking about are the ones Jordon says he ran on social media which consisted of the following:Hi everyone!
I've just recently started working at MSE and I'm working very closely with the Forum team on comping!
We are getting prepared for Advent comps this year and wanted to ask what you wanted to see? A separate thread? Easier navigation?
Would be great to hear your feedback!
But like I said a lot of the people who responded aren't MSE users anyway so seemed a bit strange to go off what they want rather than what actual MSE users wantYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Lovely to see the Advent thread is now a sticky. Not sure why there was all the polls everywhere about it I hadn't realised having it as a sticky didn't work.
Can I say how much I appreciate the effort some members put into making sure the busy Christmas period runs as smoothly as possible.
I apologise in advance for not being able to do very much; my job now means I spend most of my working day at a pc and I don't want to spend all my free time also at a pc.
I will chip in with the usual slightly manic posts as below.
"OMG WHY ARE BUMPING THIS THREAD TO TELL ME YOU HAVE WON ONE OF THE 1,000,000,000,000 RUNNERS UP PRIZES???!!!?? I HATE YOU AND ALL YOUR FAMILY."
Let's try and be nice to the new guy he can't help being a) young and b) a guy.
