Yes, it feels like I am the one on trial and have been fined £50, as the ebay voucher code passed to Paypal from ebay was invalid (told to me a few minutes ago by Paypal), so ended having £50 extra taken from ny Paypal account.
I have appealed :-)
The code was the same for all of us, it would seem highly unlikely that they singled you out to scam you.
Without sounding ride, are you familiar with checking your paypal transactions? the full amount does show if you look at the summary page or at the main part of the transaction, but if you look at the breakdown of where the oayment came from. I don't think all sellers understood they were still getting the full amount. I was waiting for new consoles to be listed, hoping for a decent priced one and barely any were listed in the time the promotion ran. They were being listed before and after though. So it would suggests people were perhaps waiting until after to list.
Plus I read comments of people saying they understood why some sellers had raised prices, basically suggesting they'd lose out otherwise. They wouldn't though.
That also leads on to the fact that some sellers did raise prices, meaing buyers didn't get a bargain as they should have done (or certainly not as good as it should have been) so they were making more money out of the offer.
I didn't end up buying anything for that reason
I have wanted a widget for a while and there are very few sellers but I was watching an ebay shop trying to decide whether to spend £240 on a whim. The non ebay shop incidentally was selling the same widget at £255 as they charged postage as an extra.
Watched it right until 4pm and went for it, price was the same as it has been for around 3 months so I got a real bargain. I even made my basket up to £249 by adding some stationery for my stock.
My son only wanted to send about £100 on items from his watch list, but he phoned me before he checked out to see if I wanted anything else, so I also bought more bubble wrap, boxes, bags envelopes etc to keep me going for a few months - so I got all my stationery stock discounted as well , none of these prices went up either.
Oops, just remembered I haven't transferred the money to my son yet to cover my purchases!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Not a scam, MATE! How does it sound like a scam??? Not everyone is a moron.
EBAY and PAYPAL have both confirmed there was issues in their billing using the voucher code.
If you had any sense of humour you would have seen that my post was a response to StaffSW's post about "trial run" as whimsical.0 -

Without sounding RUDE. Who has mentioned anything about a scam? I'm in my 60's worked in IT for 35 years and was writing web programs back in the early 90's. I do know my way around web sites and web pages. Thank you. It was taking a good look at the Paypal transaction that made me check if the voucher value had been applied. Paypal says in the transaction that it has been applied but when I spoke to Paypal earlier this morning it hadn't actually been applied.
Paypal and ebay have both confirmed to me there was an issue with the billing at Paypal's end.
Paypal have confirmed to me that yes their transaction breaks it down to ebay balance and a ebay voucher. However the voucher for £50 in my case was not applied to my account. so ended up having £249.99 taken from my account. You should check your transactions to see if you have had the 20% total value applied to your account, because Paypal tell me I'm not the only person who has experienced this.0 -

Ebay, the place where you can easily get a bargain on an item with very few sellers but not on the worlds most popular console. Sounds about right :rotfl:
That's a lot of items lol. Good to know some people did well out of it and while ebay had a bit of an issue the code did actually work.
There were a couple of things I could have bought, but would only have saved a couple of quid and would have been buying them more for the sake of it than anything, it just wasn't worth it.
I still have the 10% code though on electronics so hoping for a drop in prices again or a good deal elsewhere.0 -

Again without sounding rude Soolin, but you should not believe everything is perfect on a web page. IT processes do break for whatever reason, and unless coded really well not all breaks are actioned appropriately, such as in this case.
I think somewhere you said you made your total price up to £249, so somewhere on your Paypal account should be a positive transaction for around £49-£50. If there isn't then you actual discount was given either at the Paypal end.0 -

I'm not at all techie but I can read a paypal transaction.
I put through 2 items in one transaction and both show the correct discount- for clarity I only posted the big one so people could see how the discount shows when applied.
My son also has checked his and again he bought 10 things in total in one transaction, the paypal headline figure shows the full amount but when he checks each transaction the discount clearly shows.

concerns me as it is obviously wrong- the code was not invalid as it worked for most of us - if the code had been invalid then you, as an expert in this, would realise ti should not work for any of us.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. jedavies, how many times are you going to reply to the same post?
We don't know you and not everyone is good at IT. soolin was just double checking that you knew how to check Paypal and that you had done so as for most they can then see that the code did work.0 -
There is someone with the same issue on the community board:
http://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Buyer-Central/CUKFLASH-20-Code-issue/m-p/4454654#U4454654
However people have pointed out that you need to check your actual breakdown of payment , but more interestingly someone has also said the following:
I can see this information on the web version of PayPal. It doesn't show the details on the PayPal app
So just in case you are checking on the app- it might be worth looking at the web versionI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The ebay code worked fine on ebay Soolin. I did actually say that. Ebay said I would only be charged £199.99. What didn't work was the code ebay passed to Paypal for the payment transaction when my account was charged. So Paypal not recognising the code that has been passed to them did not deduct 20%. So I got charged £249.99 even though ebay had said it was going to charge me £199.99.
It does help understand the issue if you understand how information is passed between different systems.0
