Exactly:T. 'To Infinity and Beyond'
  • I've really enjoyed reading this thread since I've joined.

I haven't sorted any savings yet!
I have a week off between Christmas and New Year and as all the Christmas shopping will have been done I shall gather up any savings I have and make a concerted effort to start adding to my fund.
I have also booked a holiday so need to save £500 spending for that in June.

I think I'll be 'spreadsheeting' over the holiday period.

Well done :Tto all those that have started.
  • After Xmas I'm going to start this with moving into a new house I'll need it! I'll aim for £5k :D.

    Hi

Just updating that I have now opened a V!rgin ISA so I can start my EF.

I am terrible at perfection paralysis so I have spent a few days reading about the saving accounts and which one is 'perfect' for me and then switching off the computer without seeing through actually opening an account as I couldn't decide as it had to be THE 'right' one...yawn..I annoy myself...

So this morning I have logged on and opened a V!rgin ISA as that is 'good enough' at this stage..I haven't even started saving for gods sake so of course it is good enough and I can review 'better' (read perfect) accounts when there is actually enough money in there to gain interest!!

So I have transferred £10 to start the account off.
(I have just used bold to help with the updating)
    Thanks
  • Just to add the above.. My next decision is to decide how I am going to save. As in a monthly set amount/allocation or if to drip feed the account when I have 'spare' money or when I don't spend something ie I avoid the unnecessary expensive coffee or other treat etc.

    I'll give it some thought..

Keeping Motivated, I was overjoyed to find a kindred spirit:j, but very sad for the pair of us being afflicted with Perfection Paralysis:(. I had never heard the term before but I know exactly what it means! And I've been plagued by it all my life:o. People seem to think I'm reasonably laid-back about life but under the surface I'm over-thinking like mad. Good enough won't do, everything has to be right, with the result that many major decisions remain unmade and I never get plans off the ground:o. I'm getting a bit better at it through necessity but I've still a long way to go.

I've been faffing about for months over best accounts and ways of organising any potential savings. I don't know why I'm bothering, it's not as if I've much to save:o so interest rates will barely feature. The problem of how to save (as in your next post) is harder to solve for me as getting hold of anything spare is a real headache.
  • After some nice fleaBay sales etc my fund now stands at a lovely £61.09

Funny you should say that.... :o
I made the decision several months ago that I was going to do a standing order for £300 from my current account to my EF on the first of the month. The amount was based on nothing other than there had clearly been a blip one month when I had that much left, and it was very uncharacteristic of me to be so decisive. :rotfl:I now work on the basis that if it goes out before I spend it, it's the same as paying any other bill. Sometimes it's been a bit close to the wire by the end of the month (this one being a case in point), but mentally it's gone out of the account so I can't touch it. Of course I can, but it's a lot less accessible in the other account.
