Do you actually top up your 3 SIM??

Surely if you don't top it up then it will run out of credit? (unless it's a contract sim)

I think what he is suggesting is, replacing the sim, with a new, pre-loaded one, each time it runs out of credit.

I'll second the Virgin route. They dropped the need to take a landline with your BB some time ago.
Of course, only applicable if your area has Virgin Media cable services...

    Broadband only.....................Here
So no cheaper than broadband through a landline - and no option to switch every 18 months for even cheaper deals.

If you chat to them they will offer the BB and phone together cheaper than stand alone BB.
I renegotiate mine every 12 months and usually have any price increases canned. This year I'm paying less than last year for a faster package. We never use the landline and I don't even know if the phone attached to it actually works...:D We only have it to reduce the BB option.

Would be interesting to know what sort of price you're offered. I'm currently on £16.50 for BB only. I considered 'leaving' again with the upcoming price increase, but have never tried for a BB & phone package.

Around where we are we have 2 providers that provide internet via a receiver on the roof. No landline needed. These are local companies that operate in this area though. I doubt it is much cheaper to get it without a landline nationally though.
It is only worth it here as the cheapest package is about £30 a month. (we don't have cable or BT)

  • Summarising the above discourse, the options are:

VM broadband only - £1 cheaper than broadband + phone. Cabled areas only and you will still have a "line" going to your house, but it won't do phone calls.

3G/4G data via (for example) mifi or using a phone as a hotspot.

Certain wireless schemes that cover limited areas, and other things like hyperoptic (which is £3/mo cheaper without a phone line), if you live in those areas. Like VM, you still have a "line" to your house with hyperoptic, but you don't have to take a phone service on it.

Using BT's local loop you cannot get away from paying line rental, because you need to rent a line for ADSL or FTTC (aka 'Infinity') to be delivered down, whichever ISP you use.

150MB BB and Phone with Weekend calls £28.00. I take it you are on the 50Mb package? It's always worth a chat with retention's if you are considering leaving.
Although they don't seem to be pushing the phone so heavily these days as they give standalone BB more now, but, ask the question. Get the offers for all packages (With and without) and then tell them you'll have a think and call them back. Don't make snap decisions (unless they make an offer they can't refuse).
If you don't get a decent offer straight away, phone again next week and get another CSR who may have more to give..;)
Don't go by what someone else is paying, if you use that as a tactic they go a bit cold. I know someone who is paying less than me for the same, but, I couldn't get the deal close to it. But, I'm happy with my lot for now....

    What a lousy, rip-off allowance! :)
