Phoned Nationwide the valuation is booked on the 23rd due to the vendor and finishing the refurbishment. The estate agents called after that to tell me what Nationwide had just told me. Anyway e-mailed my solicitor and he phoned to explain with that date of valuation the timescale would be pushed back to the week after we want to move in. Its very possible I could be away and we then could not move together my wife would be left doing it herself.

I am thinking maybe e-mail the estate agent to ask if the valuation could at least be moved to the end of the previous week?
  • I've been pestering my broker to try get things moving along (I'm sure brokers hate this, sorry to be one of those people :D).

Still waiting on my documents to be checked through, hopefully should receive a reply by early next week latest. I've instructed them to arrange the valuation to try and save time, so hopefully can get that done in the same time-scale.
  • Guys, just wanted to say thank you for keeping me sane over the past few weeks. I am a FTB using the HTB scheme and just wanted to show you our timescales! Nationwide have been brilliant throughout. I have not had to physically pick up the phone to speak to anyone at NW as we used an IFA but the whole process has been great and I recommend Nationwide!

20th September - First viewed house
28th September - First contact with IFA / Broker
1st October - Decision in Principle offer accepted
3rd October - Secured house with £500 deposit
8th October - Help to Buy application sent
13th October - Help To Buy accepted (Authority to Proceed)
17th October - Mortgage Application sent
17th October - Mortgage Application received
    19th October - Requested valuer
27th October - Valuation took place
28th October - Valuation report received
4th November - Official Mortgage Offer! (via text message)
7th November - Official Mortgage Offer (in the post)

Good luck to everyone else! x
  • Glad I switched to TSB. 6 working days from AIP to offer! They have been brilliant, which is more than I can say for nationwide!
  • Been reading these forums over the last few weeks and have found them a great help, just thought I'd let you know my timescales with Nationwide. I am a FTB in Scotland and went direct to Nationwide.

    Dip - 10.10.15
    Offer accepted - 26.10.15
    Full Application submitted - 2.11.15
Valuation - 9.11.15 (home report in Scotland so no actual visit needed)
    Valuation accepted - 10.11.15
    Mortgage offer - 10.11.15

Overall found the Nationwide process good but I did chase most days by phone for updates to try and keep the process moving along, I suspect if I had not done this it could have taken longer as at one point they mentioned that they were dealing with emails from 3 days previous.

So a quick update and asking the question is it possible?!

We had our dip accepted on 26/08/15
    found a house on 23/09/15
had to wait until it was almost completed as it was being refurbished so had our mortgage application appointment on 31/10/15.
Valuation then not able to take place until 23/11/15 due to the building works. Which was understandable as we would rather delay a little than it not be finished for the valuation inspection.
Nationwide then moved the day from the 23rd to 26th Nov without telling the vendor - fortunately he was understanding of this and as the house is in our street I walked up to tell them we had the text - with him saying he had not had a phone call!!

Anyway the valuation came back last Friday (expected an offer as the valuer said all was fine when he went round) they want a damp and timber report and a structural inspection of two areas. Damp and timber work had been carried out and I have sent proof of this but they want a report!!

So I have a structural surveyor coming today to inspect what they asked for and a damp survey tomorrow. They have said if these are fine then they will make an offer. I am really hoping if we get these documents scanned over to them then they will be able to make an offer by Friday - a week late!!

How quick can we sign after an offer? bearing in mind chaps payment, vendor is not in a chain and ready to sign when we are.

    Hey guys,

Been following this thread for a while and I'm now in a position to actually say something.

Me and my partner are FTB and have a Save to Buy ISA with NW as well as their FlexDirect Current Account as the joint account. I also have a NW ISA as my savings account.

We applied online for the DIP with NW and was instantly accepted. I was a little worried because I have an outstanding default on there from my uni years which is due to fall off end of March 2016. But it went through no problem.

We applied for the DIP 3rd December 2015. We didn't have a house in mind at that point, we'd just started looking and wanted to make sure we had a DIP before making any offers.

We found a house a few weeks ago and the last couple of weeks we've been going back and forwards for viewings etc. We negotiated an offer which was accepted yesterday.

We have our appointment with NW booked in for Saturday morning and desperately hoping that they won't reject us. Our credit files are fine apart from that one default I have. We have a joint annual income of £65,000 and a 5% deposit (that's what we can have as we have a Save to Buy ISA).

I'll let you know timescales and how things go! If you've got any advice it would be greatly appreciated!
  • Good luck.

We recently got our mortgage offer after going direct to nationwide. It was nine working days from application to offer and that was with a couple of queries. Felt like a lifetime, though!

My broker got back to me yesterday saying there was system glitch which had a knock on effect on the underwriters signing off cases. Update on Friday or Monday... :(

Was it with Nationwide? We went there on Saturday for our application and they said the same to us. Apparently head office have made the decision to shut down the whole system until Tuesday so nothing can be done before then. We're expecting our valuation request to be sent off before the end of this week but they did say it's causing a slight back log with everything.
