Completely straightfaced , I murmured appropriate condolences, and asked her where she'd heard about this.
    " The Internet " she replied. ...

Most probably The Daily Mail website. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

why not just put the rubbish straight into the bin.wash out the pedal bin every time you empty it .

Not practical. As some councils demand rubbish is wrapped before its binned. Obviously, larger items like broken washing up bowls don't require being wrapped.

Plus for fortnightly collections, unwrapped rubbish will stink to high heaven in warm weather.

But what will you carry your rubbish to work in?

One solution is to make "paper pouches" from old newspaper: roll your rubbish up after carefully lining the pouch with the shiny Sunday supplement to avoid leakages and hey presto!

An added bonus is that you have reading material at hand for your tube journey.

How on earth did we manage before plastic bags were invented?

Some of us can remember these times.
  • Fact! If you have box for shoes, so there is no need of bag.

A pair of shoes in a bag or a pair of shoes in a box in a bag will be much easier to carry than a pair of shoes in a box.

Our wives or mothers walked to the local shops almost every day and bought small quantities. One bag was always enough. But times have changed.

Our wives or mothers now drive to the shops and buy in larger quantities but reusable bags kept in the car boot negate the "hardship".

Times have indeed changed; how many here would like the good old days of shopping every day? Not many have the time or inclination I suggest.
