To be honest this 5p thing hasn't changed my habits, as I just pay for the bags. I still use them as bin bags you see, and now Co-Op does 'thicker' standard bags, I do wonder if this will cause more issues going to Landfill than the cheapy ones they did previously.
Personally, I think it would need to be 50p per bag before I started to think about changing my shopping habits. I say habits, because it's not the fact I purposely don't take bags, it's just it's always spontaneous when I decide to do my shopping. I will pop in 3 times a week rather than one big shop, as I never know when I'll be home due to work and doing 1 big shop just causes me to waste food otherwise.0 -
Shoppers: avoid the punitive 5p plastic bag charge by sharing a bag with someone in the queue who is less of a tightwad than you. Then simply follow them home and collect your stuff from the bag they have paid for!Mornië utulië0

It would be a lot cheaper to pop a couple of bags for life in your bag or pocket ready for those 'impulse' buys. I've been doing this for years & rarely have to buy a bag.londonlydia wrote: »Personally, I think it would need to be 50p per bag before I started to think about changing my shopping habits. It's just a habit you get into.0 -

I bought clothes in M&S was asked if I wanted a bag but wasn't told I had to pay 5p. I must be one of the naive people who thought it was only cheap supermarket bags you had to pay for. As other people said I didn't want to put clothes in an ordinary shopping bag with no other protection.0

They don't have to tell you. Many are doing as its new and a courtesy, but they are under no obligation to tell you.
On food they haven't mentioned the 5p cost for years unless the customer assistant chooses to.0 -

So you know someone who spends time trying stuff on (which is good ) but then spends more time going home and ordering it online to 'save' 5p ?
And people no longer impulse buy to save 5p....
I only stated the content of the conversation exactly as it had taken place. I thought it was relevant to this topic however if you have found that in some way offensive then I can only apologise.NO FARMS = NO FOOD0 -

Of course you post was relevant, but a number of people have decided that the way to argue against those of us who are unhappy with this new law is through personal abuse.
This particular thread started with someone telling us about buying shoes in Charles Clinkard. The Money Saving thing to do is to try the shoes in the shop, then go home and order them on line through Quidco or Top Cashback. You can currently get 13% cashback on full price items, or 5% on sale items. You also get free delivery. They will probably be dispatched in a nice sealed plastic bag, which is free of charge for delivery items.0
