Paper bags only yes would reduce plastic waste, but they are not the "green" alternative people seem to think, i've said this over and over, due to the volume of gases created during production and decomp.

Also with our rainy climate cue scores of soggy goods!

I don't buy them any more at 5p each, for bin liners the Poundworld roll of 40 "carrier bag" pedal bin liners are an excellent quality & thickness, far superior to normal pedal bin bags, and at 2.5p per bag 50% cheaper.

why not just put the rubbish straight into the bin.wash out the pedal bin every time you empty it .

I for one have better things to do with my time, not even mentioning the waste of water.

I believe they are using them for home deliveries.

Which would require using water and detergent/disinfectant every time you emptied and washed the bin, something that would go against the whole purpose of trying to help the environment by cutting down on using plastic bags.
  • Pedal bin owners: now that the cost of carrier bags has gone through the roof, simply take your rubbish to work and throw it away there for free!

But what will you carry your rubbish to work in?

On a side note , a woman in the supermarket yesterday was telling me that asda have been asking people who were using other shops carrier bags to leave the shop.

Completely straightfaced , I murmured appropriate condolences, and asked her where she'd heard about this.
    " The Internet " she replied. ...

My mum was in Waitrose a few years ago and she always keeps a load of bags in here boot for shopping. The manager saw here at the till with some tatty old Sainsburys bags. He came over and asked if she wanted him to get rid of them and give her some new ones.

Those old Sainsburys, they would have to pay me to take them away.

The only freebie bag that was the most useless in the real world.

They packed up usually after one use.
