Hi, my husband is going to run the New York marathon (got the confirmation this morning, lucky him!) so now we are looking for places to stay. We want it to be cheap but not staying in a dorm or ymca. Any tips?0

I would look on the New York thread here first, lots of suggestions from people who have stayed there. NY is not a cheap place so may be best to look at value for money.0

Hiya,
I'm looking for a bit of information regarding booking through Hotwire for Hotels in NYC. Has anyone had any experience with this, and how did it work out for you?
I'm planning on a trip 6-13th March 2010 - flights are fine, have nice cheap ones going from Bristol to Newark (or JFK if thats more convenient) with Continental.
However, at the moment I'm unsure on Hotels to stay in. I see a lot of people recommending the Cosmo, but can't find a post on exactly why
Short version:
Is using Hotwire worth it? How often do people get burnt and end up with bad hotels?
What is it thats so great about the Cosmo?0 -
Update - Booked through hotwire anyway - got the best deal I've seen. $280 a night hotel for $130 a night0

Whenever I've stayed in NYC I've pricelined it except once and got really good deals but then I don't care where I stay so long as it is central and clean (I usually go 4 star -the one time I went 3 star I got the Crowne Plaza which was fine too)
Only time I didn't priceline it I stayed at the NewYorker-I found a great deal on their own website half the price of any of the 3rd party sites and got a huge room.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

When i went to NYC last December I stayed in the Hilton Times Square, who had an offer on 4 nights for the price of 3 nights.
There were four of us and we had one room with two double beds - worked out just under £700 for the four of us, for four nights :j Had an amazing time!! Really recommend this hotel0
