I've never ever handed a credit card over at the Cosmopolitan, mainly on the basis the only "extra" charges they can add on is the telephone!!!

https://www.hotelconxions.com and just say it is a visa card..

  • Hi all, hoping someone can give me some suggestions.
Planning a trip to new york, 3/4 nights in september, probably from 17th or 24th.
Trouble is there are 5 adults (made up of 2 couples and an extra!) and 3 children (2 will be under 1 so infants). Not sure where to stay. Obviously want something clean but nothing fancy as want to keep price down as much as possible. Was thinking that maybe an apartment would work out cheapest?
Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Hi all.Great thread this. But if a few people could help me that would be fantastic.I've looked through the thread and can't really find what I'm looking for.

I've booked a very last minute flight to New York as a surprise for my girlfriend leaving on the 7th February. But I'm struggling to find a hotel within my budget.I realise that hotels in NY aren't the cheapest but if anyone knows of ones that are decent that would be a great help.My budget is a maximum of $100 a night, obviously if there is anywhere cheaper that would be really good.I know that's not much a night but I'm on a tight budget.

    Thanks in advance everyone.Josh

Have you checked kayak or the other search sites? A quick search brings up several small hotels for aroud £50 a night which while slightly higher then your budget, I think your going to be pushed for $100 a night unless you stay further out of New York. The alternative is find a cheap hostel but thats upto you!

Have you looked at Priceline? Do a search on this forum for Blindman's excellent guide to using Priceline. Also look at Betterbidding & Bidding for Travel to get an indication of what hotels have been won at what prices. These sites are American but are still an excellent resource.

Sorry, I can't help re the Queen's area.

Queens is about 50 minutes out of Manhattan, and some areas can be debatable...

Stay in Brooklyn or Manhattan if you want my opinion, below are some options for hotels, taken from https://www.hotelconxions.com

    Ameritana - $100 a night before tax
Amsterdam Court Hotel - $100 a night before tax
    Cosmopolitan - $119 a night before tax
Hotel Lollipop - $75 a night before tax - shared bath
Latham Hotel - $95 a night before tax
Riverside Studios - $85 a night before tax - shared bath
Widget Hotel - $75 a night before tax - shared bath
West Side Inn - $75 a night before tax - shared bath

obviously, my thoughts would be to splash out and go for the cosmo... but that's just me!

Thanks for the help guys, lots of good information.
Only problem is that the flight I had planned to go on and book this morning all of a sudden shot up by £800 for the return flight!!!I've no idea why.I had a great deal through someone i know at BA, and he phoned to tell me that overnight the prices had sky rocketed. If anyone knows the reason that would be good.So just planning on trying to find a reasonable priced flight now.
