Fitzio - I'm sure you'll have a lovely time. For me, although the food wasn't amazing - our visit to the view is really what stands out to us about our trip to New York and I imagine thats what you're after - that memorable factor. There wasn't anything wrong with the food - it was nice, just not amazing for the price. Although, really you're paying for the 'experience'. Have a wonderful wedding! ps, do you have your rings? We bought ours in Tiffanys in New York for half the price they cost over here.

I am going to New York tomorrow but will be flying into Newark and the rest of my family are coming into JFK. I am getting there about 3 hours before my family lands at JFK. What would be the easiest form of transport to get me there and how long would it take? Also is JFK a big airport so would i need to arrange a suitable meeting place beforehand in case our phones dont work!
    Help please.....

what terminal are they flying in to. you can meet them outside the baggage claim, those areas are not too big..

however, getting to JFK from Newark isn't the easiest thing to do. you're going to go into manhattan, to go out of manhattan, and go back into manhattan... personally, i'd meet them at the hotel, however, the easiest way is probably lug all your luggage around with you and get on the airtrain..

that website there gives you all the information you need how to do it.. only a couple of changes... then meet them at the airport terminal

    Thanks Markymoo and RoxieW!

I think we will go ahead and book The View. Need to call them first though as I can't find any e-mail contact. I have read loads of reviews and posts on TripAdvisor forums, and most did seem to suggest that the food wasn't brilliant, but you can't have everything! As long as it's good, I am sure the view will make up for it. I did read good things about The Boathouse too, but I suppose I just think that the view would make it more memorable for being in New York. Thanks again for your advice.

    Hi Fitzio,

Hope I am not too late to add my opinion!

I have eaten in both places you mention.

The View was nice, view totally amazing, food ok but not fantastic. A cheaper way of eating there is the pre-thearte package, about $40 a head I think and this is much better value.

The Boathouse, in my opinion as I have said before has to be THE best meal I have ever had, the food, the service, the venue, everything, it was faultless (and I am pretty damned picky!). The view there in it's own right is unique too, over the lake.

I am hoping to go back to NYC in Decemeber, The Boathouse will be top of my list to re-visit, I'm going for a special birthday!

Hope you have a fab time!

We have just booked to go in April, we are flying premium economy because I don't really like flying, so prefer a bit more space, but it was still only £1200 with virgin for both of us, so I was pretty chuffed.

Elected to stop at the Affinia Dumont on E 34th, which we got for a bargain at 900 for 6 nights. I really fancied the pod, but, everyone seems to complain about the noise and for 6 nights I wanted somewhere we would love. Especially as we are treating this as a second honeymoon.

So, question is what do we have to sort out next?? We are flying into JFK, but out of Newark ( just to confuse matters slightly). How early in advance should we book our empire state tickets? a friend of mine went in september said as long as you turn up at 0830 there don't seem to be any queues.

Just so excited I can't think straight.

They are all flying into Terminal 4. I thought it would be easier meeting them at JFK but if you think me going straight to the hotel would be better thats fine with me give me time to relax i suppose........:T

There is a 'sticky' thread regarding all things New York at the top of this board. Have a look through that for all you need to know - I imagine one of the moderators will move your question onto that thread anyway.

Markymoo, I still haven't booked the Cosmopolitan yet, but I see hotelconnxtions charge over £150.00 in tax for the 8 nights we intend to be there, does that sound about right? They seem to be the only ones who can now give us 2 beds, as you suggested for more space, Ebookers did it for $1600.00, but said this was to be paid to the hotel plus any local tax, not sure what to do? Any advice?
