not a bad price at all in the current climate, especially for a direct flight..

do AF fly direct? could be a Delta Codeshare?! thats my thoughts...

    M

I think it's something to do with Delta, as they've been mentioned. So does that mean I am flying on a delta plane? it's a bit confusing.

    Do you live in NYC?

Pont, Glad you had a good trip. Where on 7th Ave is this market? We're wanting new bedding so this could be a winner!

Hi - we were staying at The Wellington Hotel (7th Avenue and 55th Street) and the market was bang outside our door. Just check before you set off for it as I don't know if it was a weekly market, a monthly one or even a one off.
    Happy shopping!

We didn't manage to go in the summer unfortunately.
I suppose the chance of any sort of discount around christmas is tiny.

What should I expect to pay for a return over christmas? £400+ or what? From any London airport to any NY airport.
I am hoping for something around £300 but perhaps that's not realistic?

Yes, you'll probably be flying on a delta plane. Alot of airlines will share flights with each other, and sometimes you will get the same fare, cheaper by buying the air france ticket, rather than the delta ticket, even though it is the same aircraft, with the same service you're flying on.

as for my living in NYC.... i wish.... i want to.. but i'm currently in sunny Wakefield..

Plenty of info in markymoo's Guide to Travelling in and Around Manhattan :)
  • Does anyone know good ways of meeting people in New York, social activities that don't cost a lot? I'll be there for five weeks and it would be really good to make some new friends.

and as for bars... plenty in greenwich that i can spend hours in... though i'm more of a tribeca person myself.. you meet more locals there IMO...

East Village and Lower East side bars are my preference, again because of the locals in there. Manitobas, Nice Guy Eddies and Double Down Saloon are my faves although not the place to go if you are looking for a chilled Pinot Grigio or a Bellini......more like a Brooklyn Extra Brune, a bucket of hot wings and a great jukebox!

I want to go back again :(
  • Hello

This is my first post, so sorry in advance if I break any rules or get anything wrong!

I'm going to NY as the start of a road trip on 14th Aug - we will be staying 3 nights. Having read this board, it looks like the Cosmopolitan is the only place to stay! So that's one headache sorted.

Also wanted to check if anyone has any experience in booking baseball tickets? Have tried to get tix for the Yankees game against Kansas on Friday 15th, but no joy through Ticketmaster - I can't believe the game is a sell-out, does anyone know of other venders?

We will be renting a car on the morning we check out to begin our drive South, anyone got tips? Went to California last year, and used "US Car Hire" who did a good Alamo based package with all insurance and excess covered, but they seem a little more expensive when renting from NY.

Welcome to the forums, superfurryanimal (better not be a bear, we've already got one of those) :D

About the roadtrip, there are a few threads which may be of help - take a look here and scroll down near the end for the "USA" category where you'll see a few topics on roadtrip/touring holidays.

Also check out Martin's Car Hire Article where you can use comparison sites to make sure you get the best value, in case you've not already done that.
