    Hi there dbelle

Glad things are still going well :T .... i dont very often buy shop bread, but it when i have i always had the same problem... trying to seperate it in full slices:mad:

I find that shopping weekly is much better... i used to be terrible for letting things get close to going out of date and then eating them in waste:mad: .. which didnt help with the excess LBS either:D ....

A bonus with weekly shopping is that all the best stuff doesnt get eaten first, and if it does then you only have to wait a few days until you can get some more:rotfl: with monthly all the best stuff goes in week 1 and 2 and then you are left with the basics....

We seem to be eating better and more varied this way too... you have created a monster:D ....my husband would be amazed at how little it is costing..if he knew ;) ..well i dont want my housekeeping money reducing do i?:rotfl: :rotfl: Its not as if im saving it for myself...its just going to be a little nest egg :T ...

i managed to get the frozen peppers and mushrooms yesterday (after seeing them on here).... should save a small fortune..i had to pay about £1.40 for a kilo of each, but a 300g pot of fresh musnrooms are about the same price here..and i was forever throwing them out (i got food poisoned once so im funny with em)

well i will get off now...keep up the good work, and thanks for inspiring me in the first place :D

dbelle, Ive always done weekly shopping, especailly good when your buying fresh mushrooms, beansrouts, soft fruits etc.

Plus its so much easier to plan, you can literally glance at what youve got in, and thus what you need.

Dopnt forget to check out the "bargain corner" as I call it with the yellow labels ( I beeline there first) and then if you find anything, you can freeze it for next week then youll only need bits of top up if you get lucky

Well done both of you your inspirations :T

I'm very sad but I can't wait to join this challenge!

Me and OH are looking at properties to rent and move in to together and he's budgeted £200  a month for groceries. We both love cooking and making things from scratch, the only thing is we'll both be doing Slimming World, so we may not make the £60 as we'll have to buy particular things but will have fun trying!!! I want to build up a nest egg too for when we buy our first house together/wedding/etc!

    Hi there Skint_Catt

Im not doing slimming world, but i am dieting at the moment...pretty much working on the WW core programme i think they call it...i used to do the old one and its ingrained in my head...i find it very similar to the old SW diet - im managing fine on the low budget... is slimming world still red/green days and on say green days you can eat as much rice, pots etc as you want? I wouldnt dare try it....being told i can eat as much as i want would be fatal:D just stand back and watch me go:rotfl:

I must be sad too as i am loving this challenge...(thanks dbelle:D ) it may be happening every month - just dont tell hubby;) ... since we moved here hubby has asked if 500euros approx £350 a month is ok for food  ... if he thinks i spend that much on food he needs his bumps feeling:rotfl: :rotfl: ...so im planning on stashing the rest for a rainy day:j . Like you i cook everything from scratch...hubby stays out of the way though :j i cant stand anyone in the kitchen with me....

When you do start if you get stuck for recipe ideas feel free to drop me a line as i have somewhat of a cook book/mag fetish:o ...75 books and heaven knows how many mags at last count:eek: ...but i have stopped buying them since being on here ...honest:D

Very true. We both like Pasta, Rice and Potatos and eat them by the ton, though OH has discovered Quorn mince so he can still have Chilli and Curry's - thats the expensive bit!

Yes, still red and green - and yes I eat as much as I like. I nearly exploded from Quorn chilli and rice the other day. But I lost 7.5lbs in my first week so it does work!!!!!

Well done on the weight loss Katt!

Am going to probably start meal planning for my next weekly shop on 7th September (oh dear, i'm obsessed!) very soon. I've already spotted a few really good offers at Waitrose and they've been reducing a lot of meat lately so I hope that will all be there when I do my next shop!

I got a coupon for a free jar of Sharwoods Thai Curry Paste which I am going to redeem in a bit, so I think that will feature later on in the month!

Spinach Gnocchi tonight, will dig out the recipe I found and post here later. Stupidly cheap to make and really filling. Although very carby and cheesy so you might want to avoid Katt!

Hi Debelle, just reading your post with interest. I notice that you are shopping at Sainsbury's/Waitrose have you looked at Lidl/Aldi. Some of the prices you quoted on your shopping list still looked high to me. I normally shop at asda. Are you looking at the farmstores stuff when doing your comparision as you can get things a lot cheaper that way.
