    Hi Bommer,
We did a mixture of our shopping at Tesco/Sainsburys this week, I only shop in Waitrose for really good offers and reduced items as it is very dear.

Unfortunately we don't have a lidl or aldi close enough to us to make it worth it for the amount of petrol, which is a shame.

Asda also came out pretty similar in price too by the way, and the quality is definitely not as good. :)

dbelle, waitrose has also got a very generous voucher policy- theyll take whtever you have, whether you bought the product or not.

^^^ Really? OMG I didn't know that. That will be a huge help for me. I usually sell on my coupons as I didn't know they took them. D'oh! Is that a company or local store policy do you know? I'll just have to try a couple and see. Cant believe how excited that has made me but it all helps eh? Thanks Lynz.

i redeemed my voucher for the sharwoods paste (which I'd never buy ordinarily by the way, its just a tiny sachet for one serving for 89p!) and the assistant was really finnicky about it and read the whole thing and looked at the product several times, so it probably was a good job I didn't risk it otherwise!

Things are falling by the wayside a bit because my planning skills weren't so good. Mr spent £4 on bread, teabags, potatoes and mayo (bloody tescos). And we are running out of milk, cat food and cheese. !!!!!!. So I'll have to spend another £5 on top of that.

    So I'm failing!

I have found out that we do have an Aldi though so I might go there at the weekend and do the small bits we need and also check everything else out for the next shop. Hopefully I can make it work for £20 for two weeks.

    I wonder! :O

Sorry but even asda will take 3x any voucher even if you don't buy the product. They will also add match to any advertised product from any other supermarket/store if you produce the advertisement at the checkout up to 3x's.

Think you need to be a bit more savvy with your purchases.

    Morning

Come on dbelle :j ..you can do it...the first time is bound to be the hardest, but if you do it next month you will know where you got caught short this time..

I know next week i need to get more milk in...

And you will have things like loo rolls, hubbies hair gel left over;) ....

When i went the other day i looked at Head and shoulders (only one hubby claims to like:rolleyes: )...out here it worked out at near enough £5 a bottle:eek: ... even hubby agreed that we weren't paying that and that he would help use up the backlog of stuff i have...

I used to work for ASDA....and as long as they sell the product they will take upto 10% of your bill in vouchers (even if you dont buy the product)... some checkout operators (like me;) ) will take more..

so come on Dbelle...positive thinking...you can do this:j

    Great thread !
I've been sent over from DFW cos I have £35 for the next 11 days, four of us and a dog. Would like to join you next week and beyond if I may.
Think you're efforts so far are amazing.

Given up on local farm shop - think it has become niche market round here horrendous prices, Morrisons doing 10kg selected seconds potaotoes for £2.49 . So at worst jackets and beans for the next week.

Interested in the frozen mushroom theory too.

    Hi there frugalJo

Im soo glad that i decided to join Dbelles challenge....:j there are only 2 of us and we, sorry i.. can spend a stupid amount on food...even though i have pretty much always cooked from scratch.
The crazy thing is, that im really enjoying it and we are eating more varied at the moment and im losing weight.. i have already decided that im doing it again

Homemade pizzas are a good filler if you have hungrier family...

You can bulk out mince with grated carrot

if you get a bag of potatoes... layer up potatoes and onions - and some seasoning add a bit of stock or milk, cover with foil and bake until soft, then take of the foil so the top crisps up...lovely with homemade bread.. and if you want you can but bacon rashers on top for the last few mins, or even add slices of corned beef to the layers...

But i know what you mean about farm shops....i would love to support smaller, individual businesses but im affraid the price differences can be huge can't they? I got a 3kilo box of fresh chicken portions (10) for what worked out at about £4... and 1 portion did me and hubby a pasta dish the other day , yet when i nipped into the nearest shop to me they were charging twice as much:eek: ... so im affraid that if its a choice between extra money in my pocket or theirs im affraid i win:p

Im sure that you will pick up loads of recipe ideas on here...but this board does become addictive...:rotfl:

    Thanks for the advice ladies!

I am hoping the last two weeks will be easier because we have things like loo roll and hair gel. ;)

We were meant to have veggie shepherds pie last night but we both had mad cravings for something with meat in as we've been veggie all week mostly so we defrosted some mince and had spag bol. The shepherds pie as been moved to next week!

I am really looking forward to that chicken we are having at the weekend, I am doing roast on saturday, chickeney pasta on Sunday and then making stock out of it and hopefully soup if there are any leftover bits.

I am also making homemade pizza bases, garlic bread and a loaf. :)

I am doing a voucher hunt right now!
