We had a pretty good crop of potatoes in late July which were great, and some strawberries which are finished now. And some peas that mostly got eaten by slugs :(

We've just moved house so we've not got anything planted yet. Its a bit of a minefield in there at the moment too, so its hard to plant anything.

Went out today to get plums but all the wasps have come out because it has hot and the ground and the trees are swarming with the things. So I'm really disappointed that we won't be able to pick any plums for crumbles etc. They've eaten them all!

I think once the summer is over we are going to tidy up the garden ready to plant seeds and potatoes in the spring.

salad leaves, you can probably do now on a window sill?
Incidentally I was in woolworths the other day and there were loads of seeds ( parnsip, swede, spring onion, salad leaves) for 20p a pack ( Mr fothergills)

You can also grow peppers from seed!.

Remember, that you can pickle things like peppers for use later on in the year.

How do you pickle peppers please? I love anything pickled but are pickled peppers just done in salted water or in vinegar?

    Hi :D

Its going pretty well so far although I spent 69p on toothpaste today so that goes off the next shop!

I might have to buy potatoes too as I underestimated how many we would need, I might have to search out a really cheap massive bag of them (£2 ish) - anyone know where is best?

    xx

    Hi there

Well last night i needed some milk, so whilst hubby was bowling i nipped to the supermarket underneath...

I spent a total of 18.55 euros, or about £13.50, but for that i got:-

3kilo (10)fresh chicken portions -and they are so meaty 1 portion will doo me and hubby for casserole, pasta dishes etc:T
6 different packs ryvitas/crispbreads - which will last well into next month
18 toiletrolls - again will last us nearly 2 months
1 kilo frozen sliced mushrooms- after seeing you all on about them:D and they will last ages
1 kilo sliced frozen peppers - you guys again:D and will last ages
    block of butter
1 pack low fat cream cheese-tex mex style
2 packs low fat cream cheese - with horseraddish..im an addict
2 hazelnut yogs for hubby -eughhhhh
    2 litres fresh milk

So all in all im a happy bunny...thats £25.50 or 35.23euros so far this month and i have enough food to keep us going for quite a while....so fingers crossed i will come in under my 80euros for the 4 weeks :T ...

Hope everyone is still doing well.....:T

I was a bit rubbish at planning and we also had a bread disaster (we had some frozen wholemeal and it doesn't seem to like the freezer because every time you go to get a piece it just shatters in your hand. It wasn't even the value stuff!) so Mr got some bread today along with the potatoes and some teabags. I will update the amounts later as I don't know how much it all came to.

I've still got loads of bread flour so I am going to make a proper loaf for the next couple of weeks to freeze along with a pizza base and some garlic bread. :D

We've also rescued the fruit situation a bit - Mr managed to get quite a few apples off the tree the other day and he made apple pie and we also have some for eating at lunch time.

I think after the food has run out for the first two weeks I am going to do a one week at a time shop because the two week approach doesn't work as well!

I tend to forget things and things are reaching their sell by date a bit too!
