I haven't read all the posts so forgive me if someone else has made the same comments.
I don't like this company's products because they are constructed entirely from very narrow random strips of oak glued together. This to me spoils the appearance of the furniture.
You will not see this method used on quality oak furniture ; there will be joints but these will be hardly noticeable as the oak will be from the same stock.

  • Hi
I bought a table in OFL and upon arrival one of the side panels had come away from the table, which OFL replaced, 6 months later the new table has split in exactly the same place, I had the table independently assessed and the opinion was that there was not enough room for natural movement and this caused the split. when I sent this to OFL the reply was that it was due to me not waxing the table in the 6 months I had it and therefore the guarantee was not valid??
I notice that OFL is not a member of the Furniture Ombudsman, any advice greatly received.
    Thanks
  • On 7th April we ordered an electric recliner from OFL store in Stoke. Like others posting on this forum we were rushed through the purchase by the salesperson, reassured by her with the 7 day return guarantee, not given the owners manual until afterwards & offered delivery within 2 days if we paid an extra £39, we opted for free standard delivery and signed up for their finance as I didn't want to use my credit card - with hindsight I really wish I had just used my card. The sofa arrived on Friday 13th April. The deliverymen unpacked it and set it up for me because I have had surgery on my hands. As they left I noticed a pull in the fabric seat weave and when looking at that also noticed the cushion was damaged, uneven across the top with a deep channel 3" wide and 19" long near the arm side. I immediately rang customer services, took photos as they advised and emailed them through. I asked for a replacement, same experience as others, was told no replacement only repair, quoting terms & conditions, citing that sofas don't come under the 7 day return. :( After a great deal of discussion with very condescending customer service person, I insisted they collect the sofa, not wanting anything else to do with the company. She would not arrange collection until I paid £225 over the phone on my credit card, again demanding the huge box be saved for return. The sofa was collected on 19/04/16. In my contact with the company I was 'handled' & fobbed off with a number of lies; the sofa was specially made for me - with delivery offered within 2 days for additional money and standard delivery was within 7 working days?; It was a hygiene issue - no decent explanation offered for that comment; finally a manager told me as an expert who had worked in upholstery for a number of years, the faults were considered to be minor and therefore not deserving of a replacement. I was subsequently contacted again by the same manager and told that an 'independent expert' had assessed the sofa and written a report, an expert had undertaken the repair on cushion filling and fabric pull and repaired them within 30 minutes and since it was not faulty she offered to redeliver the sofa to me! I pointed out that it was not faulty now because they had repaired it! I stressed yet again that all I wanted from OFL was my money refunded, she again refused, quoting terms & conditions.:mad::mad::mad:

Following advice, I filmed the men collecting it and one of them remarked that the whole sofa cushion was not filled properly when being built. I obtained Trading Standards advice locally, who passed the information to their fellow department responsible for OFL head office to take up the issues of their terms & conditions being unlawful, breaching statutory consumer rights. I am currently obtaining advice and support to take OFL to the small claims court to have my money refunded. I am also in touch with staff from a well known BBC programme (Rip Off Britain) who are investigating this company and my situation. I know they would welcome any other customers who have suffered contacting them. I have also contacted the furniture ombudsman and registered my complaint there - OFL are registered retailers with the FO. I would advise anyone having similar experiences not to give up, this company are only interested in money, not in providing quality goods or adequate customer service, continue to complain, you may not only get your money back but also force the company to bring their policies and terms & conditions within the law and treat their customers fairly. That alone is worth the effort, especially since reading through all these posts today - this company has been getting away with selling damaged & substandard furniture for high prices and demanding additional money for collection for too long, the earliest post being 2008! Even being the subject of a Watchdog programme last year! Yet still they are continuing to operate in the same manner. Surely there must be some part of the system provided to protect consumers that will take up this challenge and prevail?

    Hi Katlover,
Was interested to hear the outcome. Any luck sorting out your problem with OFL?
I have a similar ongoing problem with them and am stuck at the moment. Not sure what to do next.

How rude! 1) How do you know they were 'council house people' (perhaps they were wearing a sign?) and 2) what has that got to do with anything? Are you seriously suggesting that people who live in social housing are lesser human beings? They have no taste or class?

What a revolting person you are. This entire post shows you in the worst possible light. Do you realise this?

firstly, here here, council people indeed.... what a toffee nose cunning stunt you are who wrote that! im a council person earning 2k a month...

that said, OFL, i bought locally some very nice hand made pine furniture for my council house, i was talking to the lady as we discussed my requirements and she said OFL stuff is made overseas somewhere and brought in and assembled in the UK hence the made in Britain.

dont know if its true, worth a thought.

Bought 5 pieces of furniture from OFL and it was delivered in May. Most of the stuff was very good however there was a big issue with one piece as the door was split in half. After reporting and taking pictures etc they arranged for a new door to be fitted and I was happy enough with that. I am now on replacement door number 4 being delivered today and I wont hold my breath that this will be any better.
They have even started asking me to measure the last door sent so they can send the same size out, even though I have pointed out the the size of the last door is still too big, their response is that it can be sanded down to size.
I am starting to despair with this company and reading a large number of posts on this thread it seems to be quite a common theme with this company.
    ***Additional***
Door number 4 has arrived and sadly I was right it is no better. Despite getting the measurements of the previous door they have decided to send a smaller door instead, well a smaller warped door to be exact.
I am gobsmacked that such a large company can get it wrong so many times.

No surprise from me how bad they are, they are retail shed operators and most are pretty poor at what they do. Look at complaints about DFS and do you remember MFI?
