This thread has come at good time,Lidl have a popcorn maker in next week's offers.

The last time they had them in,I missed out on getting one and I have been waiting for months for them to come back in again
I know you can make popcorn in a saucepan,I used to do it when my children were little, but the pan took ages to clean afterwards so I am going to treat myself to a popcorn maker.
I've found some great flavouring ideas already on this thread :T
That looks great and all i need know are some decent kernels to put in it as the only ones I can het online from tesco are 169 or something like it and they are the worse ever and do not pop .0 -

Ooh dear I could be in trouble with that LIDL offer, looks very tempting even though we have nowhere to put a popcorn maker and it's pretty hideous to look at!
I always make it in a pan with olive oil then chuck loads of butter and salt over it, love love butter! The problem with making other sorts is that I don't think the olive oil would taste right and we don't use sunflower/vegetable at all in our house as they are so unhealthy. I guess I could try some coconut oil for the sweet flavours and see if it will still pop on that?!
I once tried some curry flavoured popcorn at a party and that was really nice...
I'm curious about why you think sunflower/vegetable oil is so unhealthy? All oils contain pretty much the same amount of calories, I know olive oil is mono-unsaturated but it actually has more saturated fats than vegetable or sunflower (rapeseed oil has the lowest saturated).

Hi,
I've been experimenting with making caramel popcorn tonight with mixed results. I want something like Butterkist, but haven't quite got there yet.
Does anyone have any recipes or tips I can try to save me wasting more ingredients experimenting?0 -
I made this version which was declared a success by those eating it. I prefer buttered or cheese popcorn so I didn't try it however they assured me it was great and it certainly didn't last long so must have been good enough.0

I make something like poppycock and am experiemtning with lots of popcorns these days, dh bought a popcorn maker and loves it.
The trick i hadn't caught on to in early atempts was after the sugary butter mess is poured onver the popcorn you need to put it in the over to dry out and crisp, not be sticky and wet.
If you google popcorn recipes there are loads and loads.

I am trying atm to find low fat and sugar flavourings so i can have some of this stuff:D Orange zest and artifical sweeter has been ok, and i am trying next to get a lemon and chilli one right. I have a go at making some every time we watch a film.:D0 -
I put 1 tbs syrup, 40g of butter and 40g of soft brown sugar in a pan. Melt it down and pour over 100g of popped corn. It's even nicer if you add a big dollop of peanut butter to the pan."Who’s that tripping over my bridge?" roared the Troll.

And that is why dh eats the popcorn while i continue to experiment with healthier options. It is not a light treat when it has most toppings/flavourings.0
