My son has just been trying to cook popcorn in the microwave with no success. He's just covered a bowl with a plate and heated it up. After reading the packet he's discovered it's past the best before date by just over a year.

Is it useless? Is there anything we can do?

    Thanks

If he's followed the instructions and it won't pop then there's not alot you can do with unpopped popcorn I'm afraid. :-(

Try cooking it in a saucepan on the hob instead? Got to be worth a go...
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Agree with both posts, if its not popping despite following instructions, then its unlikely to work, however the bit of butter in a pan is how you usually cook non commercial popcorn (and waaaaay cheaper!) so give it a try :)

Thanks everyone - I've just checked the packet and it doesn't mention microwave so no wonder it won't pop. We'll give it a go on the hob.

I've looked in Asda, Sainsburys, Coop, Waitrose and 2 branches of Tesco for some popping corn without success. We don't have a Morrisons nearby. I looked in the home baking section and the healthy seeds and nuts section of each.

I could probably get some at Holland and Barratt but that would mean a special trip into town and I expect it would be quite dear.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

I'm sure it is kept with all the dried pulses and beans

If you have an iphone, the tesco finder app can tell you the isle and shelf its in as well - if you dont have an iphone, let me know where your nearest tesco is and i can check for you

Also, most health food shosp sell it - Holland & Barrott etc
