Has anyone's child done Camp America or a similar programme? DS wants to do it next year. I don't know whether to encourage him to do it, as it does cost quite a lot to do (you basically break even from what I've read after paying out all your costs) or whether he should look at trying to get work in this country - maybe at the YHA camps (think Mhoc's DS did this?) or Kings Camp (we have one 2 minutes away) or PGL etc.
He has a CACHE Level 2 Childcare qualification and is now doing Level 3, which is a 2 year course. He is a qualified RLSS lifeguard, and is a young leader with cubs and woodcraft folk. His ultimate aim is to work in the kids clubs on Disney Cruise Line, but he cant do that til he is 21. He will be 18 in November.
One of my work colleagues daughters did it this summer, we saw plenty of pictures and I would say, yes go for it to your son. They are supervised and have a good back up and mentor programme so that even the less able and less outgoing ones are catered for and not left floundering. Her daughter was pretty shy but she decided to go on to Australia when it finished and now there is romance in the air , with a lad who was also there !!!0 -

He has talked about doing it for ages, I'm actually the one who suggested it. I just don't know if he should wait another year. Plus need to check his college course actually finishes early enough!
Thanks mhoc, was hoping you'd come on! I think he could volunteer with NCS as well, although don't think that's paid at all, whereas Kings Camps are and would look really good on his CV. Need a proper sit down chat with him I think.
Looking at the website, it might be too late now but I am wondering if he could maybe see if your nearest King Camps might have him on a trial over the October half term - even if its just for a day - maybe he could shadow an instructor to see how things work.
its difficult thinking so far ahead isn't it
just had a look at YHA and for Summer Camp Team Leaders who actually run the camps you have to be over 18 - oo he is 18 this year then he would be OK for 2016 summer

That sounds good, just had a quick look.
He is quite busy over half term, he is actually volunteering for 2 days at the lego brick exhibition at the NEC. Loves lego and was going to buy tickets, this is ideal as he gets 2 free tickets per day worked, so will use them for the one in London in December.
Going to look into Kings Camps to see if they run over Christmas hols, as he could do then, or February half term.0 -

Bless Perky, it can't be easy
Have you got a smartphone? I get a bit scatty brained when I'm busy and use an app on my phone that is like virtual post-it notes. It's a godsend.
So when you put your item away you could make a note in your phone of which bag/pocket/other place you've put it. That way if you forget you would just need to look at your phone. It might help you out with other things like your shopping as well. I often put barcodes and other details I see on here on a virtual note.
All this would only work if you don't forget your phone of course0 -
I asked Son if he would console his Mum while I cooked dinner as she's had a hard day at work.
He gave her his XboxFighting Recurring Cancer0
