Zen sound fairly competent when I've talked to them. I imagine that they would deal with the issue much better than the BT Indian call centres, which I found always had to run through their script, regardless of how many times you had been through it before.

I would agree and PlusNet were like that too.

Main concern would be if it requires BT Openreach to fix some fault as it won't matter then who the provider is. They are all at the mercy of BTOR.

If all ISP's were this good, this thread, et al would be redundant.People on here, know what they are talking about.
Seems that all ISP's are mentioned as having problems on the threads here.
Are there any good ISP's, or, just some, worse than others.;)

I havnt posted on the Community Forums, although I have read quite a few posts from people who have had similar issues (none of which seem to get solved from what Ive seen).
Plusnet were very helpful for me via the online forum when my speed dropped. Openreach did what they could but advised the biggest problem was likely to be the 40 year old wiring buried between the house and pavement.

Yes we need the more important bits that should be found if you click on the More Details section. Have a look at the link I gave you earlier.

The section that is specifically needed gives info on your Attenuation and current SNR levels both up and down.

However it does say you're getting 7.8 down which is more than I'm getting and wouldn't be considered slow. Have you tried a speed test with a wired connection?

Yes - it seems to be ok this morning! This is what happens: I raise a ticket with Plusnet, then after a day it suddenly speeds up. Then after a day or 2 it suddenly goes back a crawl. This has happened twice now. So either:
    1) Its just a coincidence that my connection has suddenly sped up again
    2) Plusnet has seen this thread and done something
    3) The issue - after 3 months - has been rectified
Have you tried a speed test with a wired connection?
What - a cable going from my laptop directly into the router? No.
Have you posted on the Community forum yet?

I havent tbh. It seems Im getting somewhere on this forum :) . I will post on Community forum if I still get no joy.
    Thanks

Ok as expected with no 21CN available to you at the exchange.

    Channel mode: Interleave

Interleaving is on which suggests there have been errors.
    Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,208 / 8,320
    Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 7,808
    Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/GB]: 0.00 / 22.05
    Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 7.5
    Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 2.5 / 7.0

Maximum speed for that Attenuation would be about 8128 and you're currently at 7808 so not bad.
    SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 27.0 / 8.0

The US SNR is very high which accounts for the low upspeed of only 448. This may have been capped/banded for a reason or sometimes you get put on this at the start for no reason. Something to get looked at.

The downstream at 8db suggests a higher target SNR than the "normal" 6db. That may indicate an issue.
    Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / P
    Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 458,749 / 0
    Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Link (Remote): 0
    Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 983,029 / 0
    FEC Errors (Up/Down): 13 / 7,712
    CRC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / 10
    HEC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / NA

The FEC/CRC/HEC errors don't look particularly bad but I'd be greatly concerned with the Error seconds and Loss of Signal.
    1) Its just a coincidence that my connection has suddenly sped up again

Unlikely to be a coincidence. More likely to be something that's causing the slowdown isn't presently here. Remember that your sync speed is just what the router synced at 8 days ago and is not indicative of the actual speed you're getting right now.
    2) Plusnet has seen this thread and done something

Unlikely. There is a PlusNet rep on here but they would need more details to be able to do something so would have posted.
    3) The issue - after 3 months - has been rectified

When did you last notice it?

What - a cable going from my laptop directly into the router? No.

You really have to do a wired test to rule out a WiFi issue.

You really should post on the Community forum. There are a couple of posters in particular (Anotherone especially) who are far, far more knowledgeable than I am and will guide you through what to check and how. PlusNet CRT also post on there so should pick this up too.

It was slightly better last night. But this morning it seems fine. Better than it has been for months!

Ive tried this before - albeit not within the last month or so. I will try again however.
