Barclays Took £2 Million from me

Hi all,
I am lost as to what to do next with this big f**king hole Barclays have put me in. A hole that might end my businesses.
On 24th Septmeber I logged into my online banking to pay someone and noticed that £500,000 had been taken from 4 accounts. One personal, one savings and two business accounts.
Called Barclays straight away and they couldnt tell me what had happened.
Today 7th Oct they have still not sorted this issue, still dont know what has happened and from how they have gone about this they dont care about this issue and the fall out it is causing me.
I am unable to run my business, pay my staff, run my life, even buy food!
In a few days I wont have a car because my insurance payments are bouncing along with all my other payments.
How do i go about this and force Barclays to do SOMETHING! I havent even had any proactive communication with them, I'm doing all the calling and going into branch.
The latest story I have is its "operational issues at HQ", which i think is another fob off story.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME and give me a new direction to go down!!!!!!

Obvious question here, did you actually have £500,000 in each of these accounts for them to take, or have these amounts being taken out just put you absurdly into the red?
If the latter, anecdotally from other people on this forum who've had similar issues some banks seem to just debit accounts with huge sums of money to empty them out and sink them impossibly far into overdrafts as a method of freezing the money in them when they're carrying out fraud/money laundering investigations, which would also tie in with the fobbing off/blanking you've been getting, as if they are investigating you/your accounts for money laundering they aren't allowed to tell you.0 -
Are you saying that you think that you have been the victim of fraud by some outside agency or that Barclays have removed this money?0
-
Nido - No, non of the accounts had £500,000 in them or anywhere close. The saving account only had £1 in it (an unused account). I am £499,XXX overdrawn.
Money laundering??? Not that I am aware of.
Xylophone - From what the bank is telling me there has been no fraud transactions taken on my account.0 -
Surely the thing to do is go into the bank and not just call them. Sit with an appropriate member of staff and stay there until it is resolved.
It's not the type of fraud to just 'call' them over .. Most individuals who could not afford to lose such amounts would be queuing at the door and waiting for the bank to open.
I find the length of time here, 24th September, until the present day, a little odd for you to have waited so long, particularly if you have wages to pay etc.
You need to drop everything, leave someone else in charge at work and get to your bank and sort it out.0 -
Post images of statements (redacted) to prove that your story is true, as it sounds incredibly unlikely to me.0

...it sounds incredibly unlikely to me.
That said, that time it was "two barclays personal accounts, one savings account and business account". Now it is "one personal, one savings and two business accounts" that rings a bell. And who on earth has savings accounts with Barclays nowadays?0 -
!!!! Wish i had that much money mr beckham lol0
-
What bank allows a savings account to be almost £500,000 in the red???
In online banking, does it give any details at to the nature of these debits, i.e payee name ???"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
(I tried to post an image but it wont let me because I'm a new user) This is a screen shot from the text alerts i get from my personal account.
The odd thing I noticed this morning is that there is money moving within the account.
And to answer you Kgriff - I have been into the local branch daily. They tell me they cant help me. I speak to the "special complaints department" daily. He tells me he has nothing new to tell me.
Other than "its under investigation" "we're/I'm sorry" and "you'll just have to wait" that is all I get from everyone at Barclays.
I have said that I will go to the headquarters if thats where the issue is. Was told that wouldnt help.
I have sent them an invoice for the time this has affected my business. There is also A LOT of money that could be lost from potential business too.
Maninthestreet - no transaction of £500,000 show on any of the account.
I'm amazed from posting in this forum this morning that this is not a one off case.0 -
what do you mean " no transaction of £500,000 show on any of the account" if you look at your accounts there must be some sort of transaction showing how the balance changed in each account.
I also agree, you need to go into your branch, ask for your account manager or a senior member of staff, and make it clear (calmly, but firmly) that you need an explanation, you will not leave until you have one. Explain that you cannot operate your business, and must get this sorted out today.
DO NOT lose your temper, be assertive but as reasonable as possible. If you become aggressive, you will get nowhere.
If I were in your shoes, I might also have my solicitor's phone number with me, contact your solicitor if the bank won't tell you what is going on, or offer you some means to access funds while the problem is being rectified.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0
