dawyldthing wrote: »Then you get a cheap tiger airlines flight from Bangkok to Singapore/ Hong Kong/ Phuket (the latter isn't that far away from Bangkok in all honesty.) Might not be direct but Bangkok is a pretty major hub and can still get cheap flights to there. Or get a sleeper train - there an experience of there own.
I was just using it as an example as it is there down time so was saying if you shop around you'll probably get different priced flights.
Some don't half have a chip on the shoulder on here, must have got out the wrong side of the bed
My question was for richardw....he stated that your post had helped him...but it was a lie. It was just a post because he is upset at me for questioning one of his posts earlier.
Perhaps you too misunderstand. I was adding to your post, but stating that we were both going off topic as we were far outside the OP's criteria.
A single stop was as far as the OP wanted to go.
So I was making clear that our discussion of inexpensive indirect flight prices to BKK were off topic. There were indirect flights to BKK for less than £400 even within the OP's date range. But they were rejected because of multiple stops and being lesser known.
They are travelling with children and will not be travelling by overnight train or low cost airlines etc.
richardw just jumped in because he is still upset about something else...and likely hollydays too(haven't read, but I can guess) making it appear much more of a big deal. jpsartre hasn't even registered on my radar until today. The phrase having a chip on one's shoulder refers to holding a grudge or grievance that readily provokes disputation
If you stand back a little you will see clearly that it is not me who is holding a grudge or grievance, but some others who readily joined the thread for a chance to have a go...without posting even a single suggestion for the OP.

We have decided on Emirates flights, like the flight times and less than £2k.
However, trying to book them and get all the way (past card details and reviewing itinery) and then an error message comes up
"Sorry, the system was unable to complete your booking. Please try again"
We've been trying all day
Is this directly with Emirates?
Obviously I can't replicate your actions, as you get past entering card details.
Some of the ME airlines allow you to hold the flight for a certain amount of time. Do you get that option with Emirates?
Just checked, Qatar does it, not Emirates.
Try another Browser?
Sorry about the off-topic posts....having to wade through nonsense to get to the relevant info

Dear oh dear...the rattle has well and truly been thrown out of the pram. I suspect that richardw will not be losing any sleep - let alone be 'upset' over some puerile ranting.
As dawyldthing has mentioned, Bangkok is an excellent hub to travel on to other Asian destinations although I appreciate that having kids in tow, this may not be an ideal option.
That said, a lot of the sensible advice on here may not be of any benefit to the OP, however, there are many others lurkers who may indeed be assisted by the alternative options that have been posted.
Awaiting incoming flak!0 -
All of the ^^usual suspects^^ have appeared. Three pretty maids all in a row.

So keen to get their nails in, that they failed to notice that I was the first (in post #7) to suggest using BKK as a hub. But in a max. of two segments, to fit in with the OP's requirements.
Three segments to SIN or HKT was not acceptable to the OP and I imagine the six hour plus stopover with RJ on the way back wouldn't be attractive to them either.
Budgetflyer's suggestion of Business Class at a cheap price was off topic, , but was certainly useful info for people heading to the region. But RJ in Economy just took the thread further off-topic.
This year I could all but fly direct to BKK for £350, with many options at £300. So £400 with RJ and a six hour plus stopover in economy really isn't great.
But why let the truth get in the way of the girls wanting to get their nails in....eh?
I certainly don't have a problem with richardw's posts in general. He has provided useful advice for the OP. But I am not the one with the chip on my shoulder.
He was clearly still upset that I posted that Thomson fly outside the OP's date range...to save the OP wasting time. He took it as some kind of personal insult and appears still a little sour.0 -

I'm a liar and upset apparently
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
IMO "off topic" isn't always bad. Sometimes I have found out some really useful stuff completely irrelevant to a subject, but been able to use it anyway.

" Off topic" is the clarion call of the megalomaniac .
Saying something's off topic can be a way of bullying people on here.0 -

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
So tell us how finding out that you could fly with RJ to BKK for £400 in May has helped you......I welcome the information about RJ flight prices.
Really? :rotfl:It is relevant to the subject, and useful to moneysavers.
No, it is and was no use to the OP and it isn't useful to moneysavers as the price isn't remarkable and the long stopover inconvenient.
Seriously...I know that you look for good value flight combinations and there is no way that you would consider that an exceptional price, nor would you consider that six hour plus stopover appealing, unless you were planning a short tour of Jordan.
Business Class for a Grand, maybe. Economy for £400, nothing special unless it is for peak season. I'm paying £450 to fly with Qatar mid December.
You can post as much nonsense as you like and claim it to be useful, but don't be upset if someone challenges your assertion.
Being nice doesn't have to mean to swallow any old nonsense.0 -

In fact, I didn't state that off topic was bad. I simply stated as the RJ topic went forward that we were beginning to hijack the OP's thread....at which point richardw took umbrage. Likely because of a slight he felt earlier.
The info on the RJ Business Class flight should have it's own thread, as really it didn't fit the OP's criteria. But it was informative nonetheless.
RJ Economy for £400 in May just took the thread further off topic...hijacking it in other words, as none of it was relevant to the OP.
Now it has really gone awry.
The OP posted about a problem booking with Emirates and has been almost completely ignored. Perfect example of thread hijacking. The original poster doesn't get a look in.and people who have no useful info to impart are posting because of the chip still sitting firmly on their shoulders.
They'll be the first running to the mods in the hope of stirring up trouble. Desperately hoping to matter.0
