‘Tory, Tory, Tory, scum, scum, scum’

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/anti-austerity-rally-video-shows-10192279

Can you imagine, even for one second, the outrage there would be if a bunch of rich people surrounded a labour candidate singing "poor scum" then threw stuff at him?

No you can't....

One of the unpleasant side-effects of Corbyn's win is that the repellent far-left who've clearly been restraining themselves (or been forced to restrain themselves) under Nu-labour are interpreting Corbyn's leadership as tacit approval of stuff like this & worse. There's been a noticeable rise in left-wing bile & no attempt to contain it since Corbyn was elected. Easy to imagine five years of some ugly protests & rioting if the Govt don't stamp down on them appropriately & early. Nothing other than peaceful protest should be tolerated for a second.

With respect, I don't think it's got anything at all to do with Corbyn.

Demo's have been going on like this for ages.

There was one on the 8th July and another on the 21st July against these tax credit cuts to name just a couple.

As for being egged, John Prescott, a labour MP also got egged. Jim Murphy was egged up in Scotland.

As for the "poor scum" stuff - true, you are not going to find that in a protest type situation. Then again, the rich appear to have less to protest on the streets about and generally go straight for the jugular of the locals and councils.

However, the rich get into their fair share of scuffles. The fox hunting demonstrations are enough to show that - and yes, you do have the "poor scum" type analogies in those situations. Pro hunting protestors also broke into and "stormed" the commons, physically assaulting a doorman and wrestling him to the ground in the process. These were tory supporting lads against labours fox hunting ban.

So I think it's unfair to suggest it's a thing of the left.

Throwing eggs at people isn't acceptable, and whoever did it should be charged with assault.

Although I detest protesters shouting "scum" at people, I wouldn't be in favour in curtailing freedom of speech. We already lost certain rights for peaceful protest under New Labour.

I agree with Graham. These types are nothing new.

I have no respect for politicians regardless of the shirt they choose to kick the ball around the field wearing.

The general public should be allowed to heckle and throw tomatoes and eggs on the odd occasion ..

Maybe if a few more politicians thought that the decisions they make have real consequences ,,and that may mean they get called scum on the streets ,it would make them think harder ..My experience tells me that Political creatures have thick skins and gain nothing from being confronted by anyone with a differing opinion and would not even hear the words heckled at them.
No sympathy ..he can go get a real job if he doesn't like the eggs

Don't you think their deaths and injuries are worth remembering ?

Don't you think that leading members of the Labour party are long term supporters of the killers?

Do you call poppy day an 'obsession' too?

Now there's an excuse though. Anti austerity rhetoric will inflame those looking to cause trouble.

We ..And I mean the British public have a tradition of throwing rotten food at politicians and it rarely changes to the throwing of life threatening missiles.

So in answer to your question of course bricks don't fit into the list of throw able things ..perhaps flour or rotten fish

    Maybe.

But couldn't you say the same when it comes to austerity rhetoric will inflame those looking to cause trouble?

Some of the biggest riots in history were caused by tory stubbornness (poll tax).

So what should the solution be in a democracy?

My overarching point in all of this is we can't blame Corbyn for everything by trying to link events to his leadership. Events which he has nothing to do with.
