If he had been taken to a back room as you suggest, he could then deny having the goods on him and say they planted the stuff on him.
He may be a known shoplifter to them and not the first time he has been caught.
If he is unwell as you seem to think although you do not know him all the more reason to prosecute him so he can get help rather than throw him back on the street.
He had enough savvy to go into the shop and shoplift by stuffing goods down his clothes so he was not so unwell.
Sorry, but my feelings lie with the staff who have to deal with such people.0 -
