I hope all of you are perfect and never suffer mental disability, or grow too old for that matter.

How do you know he had mental disability?

OP at what age do you consider stores should start treating shoplifters with kid gloves?

He was happy (and able) to stuff the items down his trousers in the shop, so why not remove them in the same way?

Is seventy classed as old now? My Dad is that age and still fit and able, spends most of his time exploring the world. The only "disabling" factor here is alcohol, for which I have little sympathy.
  • The staff maybe felt safer dealing with him at the exit rather than making him walk through the store if he was in such a intoxicated state and making a racket. Drunk people (if that's what he was?) can be unpredictable - I'd imagine the staff would be concerned that he may lash out and attack them (or other customers if they tried to get him to walk back through the store to another room) so they would want to get the stolen goods back and get him out as quickly as possible if they weren't getting the police involved.

Years of drinking hardly balance your mind.

He looked very thin and frail to me.

They were going to prosecute, he didn't look strong enough to hurt a fly, very thin and frail.

Sorry, just re-read your original post about them man handling him back into the store and not being at the exit!
I think I'd feel scared if I was staff, which is maybe how it ended up being handled in the way it did. If he was unsteady and taken away from the shop floor and hurt himself the staff may have been blamed. (I don't know if they have CCTV off the shop floor?)
But I do agree it would have been better to deal with it away from other customers.

You could have blown him over with a puff Laura, glad someone agrees with me that the matter was unprofessionally and inhumanely dealt with.

Years of drinking - you have his life history now?

You seem to have made lots of snap judgements without knowing any facts. It's no wonder they've ignored your complaint.
